1964 Chevrolet Corvette Description

The second owner said that when he bought the car it had a big block with a low rise intake manifold and air cleaner that cleared the stock hood. He replaced the original engine with a used 425 HP 396 in 1974. At that time he replaced the hood with a big block hood because the high rise intake manifold and air cleaner would not clear the stock 64 hood. The car was repainted base coat/ clear coat IROC blue in the late 1980s.

Since I owned the car I have completely rebuilt all the mechanical parts of the car in the past 13 years. Every part of the brakes, steering, suspension and drive train has been rebuilt or replaced. The first thing I did was to I upgrade the brakes with a new dual master cylinder, all new hard and soft lines, adjustable proportioning valve, 1965-67 stainless steel calipers with anodized o-ring pistons and cross drilled rotors. Only silicon brake fluid has been used since this completely new brake system was installed, therefore there will never be any internal corrosion.

Every part of the front and rear suspension and steering has been replaced or rebuilt. All bushings and mounts, including the differential cross member rubber mounts and front differential bracket have been replaced. I replaced the front and rear sway bar mounting bushings and down links with poly ones for improved handling. All other bushings are stock replacement rubber.

I had the differential returned to the original 3.08:1 ratio with a new ring and pinion, new 65-67 posi-unit, new billet yokes, all new bearings and seals. The U joints on the half shafts and drive shaft were replaced with the correct Corvette parts. The numbers-matching M20 transmission was rebuilt with new heavy-duty synchros, sliders, bearings and seals, and correctly shimmed to get complete gear engagement for maximum strength and reliability by the Minnesota Muncie expert.

I replaced the engine with a new complete GM crate deluxe 502/502 and new bell housing, flywheel, clutch, Milodon 7 quart oil pan, alternator, belts and hoses. There are only 3400 miles on the engine, and Center Force dual friction clutch and rebuilt transmission. I retained the original distributor, ignition shielding, air cleaner, valve covers, brackets and pulleys, and exhaust manifolds. I installed an MSD 6 AL box with a 5800 rpm chip per GM's recommendation. The radiator was replaced with a heavy-duty aluminum radiator and a high performance fan. This car runs cool on 100-degree days in stop and go traffic. The car has a new set of factory 2.5 inch chambered side pipes selected with the louder option.

This car is being sold with the 17-7 Vintage Wheel Works V40 two-piece torque thrust replicas with high performance Kumo 205-45-17 tires.

This car has never been driven in the winter and has been in heated storage three times for extended periods over its life. The frame is excellent, the body unaltered except for extra taillights. The fenders have never been flared and all bonding strips are in place. The doors and hood fit right and open and close correctly. All windows open and close and the top goes up and down correctly and is in very nice condition.

All the trim, chrome, side pipe covers, window glass and the interior are original except for carpets. Everything on this 58,000-mile car works, including all gauges, clock, radio, ventilation and heating systems and all lights and horn. The headlights open and close perfectly.

The paint is very nice but not perfect, the seats are good, the door panels are very nice, the seat belts have been replaced recently.

I have a thick book of receipts plus a detailed record of what I have done to the car, plus a 1964 shop manual from the Milford Proving Grounds, owner’s manual and new car brochure.

The car drives better than a new car and has outstanding performance. The car is totally reliable and trouble free. The car has not been raced or abused and has been owned and only driven by an older gentleman the past 13 years.

The car is located in St Paul, Minnesota.

The successful bidder will have the opportunity to buy a set of very desirable early Western knock-offs with Kumo 205-70-15tires with only 500 miles on tires; wheels and spinners are in excellent condition. Be sure to note that these are NOT included in the auction price.
