This is a Unicorn….Literally. The one year only 1987 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 SWB 4x4 with 350ci engine.
History: This truck was a present from a local man to his adult daughter back in 1987. The SLC dealership added the custom paint and sunroofs before he gave it to her. Take a look at the hood to see the level of custom. Its faded and hardly noticeable unless you get right up on it. I remember seeing her drive it in the Ogden-Layton Utah area as long as I have lived here. The truck is a small local legend among the square body GM truck fans I know. When I saw it for sale recently I knew I had to have it.
The tuck is above average for the age. I will give you the good/needs attention breakdown.
Good: Largely untouched SWB. Silverado Package (power windows, locks, tilt, cruise, A/C). Original engine fires right up, no hesitation, still has good power with no odd noises (knocks, valve train, etc.). Transmission shifts are good and crisp. No vibrations when driving. Bed inside is in excellent scuff and liner or paint condition.
Not so good: Some oil smoke on startup (valve seals), but quits quickly and gets better the more you drive it. Power locks, cruise and voltage gauge are in-op (have not looked into it). Have pictured the major body areas that would need attention before paint/restoration. Small leak in trans/transfer case area (not massive, just usual old truck stuff). Will need a new drag link end soon. Drives well at speed, but steering could be tighter. A/C needs charged.
Overall: This is a nice driver quality classic truck with full restoration potential. I will be sad to see it go, but decided to fund a different project.
Autocheck: I have the clear, unbranded Utah title in hand, so that is wrong. History shows a right rear impact 12/04/2001 and there is dent (pictured) in the original bumper on the right rear, but no body damage. For some reason it shows not actual miles as of 04/28/1987?????
