1966 Chevy Chevelle SS 396 CA Barn Find Original Family Owned
1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport Description
The Ultimate Find - A Original SS Sitting in a garage in LosAngeles for over 35 years, Hidden Away From The Public
Purchased new here in Southern California, the original owner drove it for a few years & then selling it to his brother in law. The brother in law, Charles the second owner used it only the strip. A few times in the early 70's at Lions Drag Strip before closing. Mostly hanging out atRiverside Raceway & Ontario Motors Speedway. Charles retired the Chevelle whenmost of the speedways was closing down & the drag strip era was fading out. 35 years later - the video shows Charles (passenger door) pushing the Super Sport out of the place where it sat just resting.
I'm proud to present this True 1966 Chevelle Super Sport 396 at No Reserve....
Factory Optioned Included Marina Blue with Black Leather Bucket Interior - Factory 4 Speed without a console - Knee Knocker Tach / Clock On the Dash pad
When the second owner purchased it from his wife's brother, the motor was a dealer warranty replacement "CE" Big Block (Date Code 6 67)Charles intention was for the track when purchased. Replaced the 4 Speed transmission with a TH400 / Hurst Shifter Automatic Box.Most important the clutch pedals are still in place.Installed Hooker Competition Headers, replaced the factory Tach with a steering Colum Tach & added Slot Mags. The rear inner wheels was cut just a bit to installed larger mags in the rear. Looks to have glass pack dual cut half way exhaust. Radio was removed as well as the heater controls.
Very period correct, a time capsule for vintage racers. Not a dramatic race car but something that was commonly done - second day add ons.
Owner Mention Original paint Marina Blue - Original interior - original solid floors/undercarriage & frame structure
The owner mentioned the miles are original 30,249 but I have no documentation to prove its accuracy. Telling by the interior & the pedals other then the patina - I wouldn't doubt it.
Charles, had thoughts on having it back on the road in the 90's but restored. He was going to get it running had the gas tank removed, alternator but that was the furthest the project went with him. He painted thetrunk lid adarker blue to see how he liked the color butthank god -he didn't like it& the original paint on the car still remains. The owner took the front bumper off when he was trailing it to the tracks. I recently installed a new front bumper to the front.
Overall, its a unrestored 1966 Factory SS 396 Chevelle BARN FIND Survivor.
Either restore it back to original / restore it as a vintage drag track car or its only original once - leave it alone
