1953 Chevy short bed half ton barn find truck. I pulled this truck out of a barn last year.
The body on this1953 is one of the best I've seen as far as rust is concerned. There is almost no visible rust through anywhere on the body, only surface rust. The only panel that has visible rust through is the piece on the front of the bed by the cab and you really have to lookhard to see it.The cab corners and kick panel area are extremely nice. Itstill hasthe original floor pans. AllI had to do wasclean them up and coatthem with por-15. It doeshave various dents, dings, scratches, surface rust, chipped paintand a few cracks in various places. As near as I can tell the blue paint is the original paint applied by General Motors, this truck has not been touched up in any way. All of the patina was earned on a farm in Western Kansas. I do have an original rear bumper for the truck however, I do not have the brackets. The original bed wood has been cover by a sheet of steel many years ago. I was usingthe truckto haul grass clippings so I never got around to removing the steel floor and installing a new wood one.
The interior on this 53 is very presentable. I have installed a new factory headliner, new door panels a new floor mat, new seat covers, new windlaceand fixed the two roll up windows with new glass. The gauges all work with the exception of the original water temp gauge. It has an aftermarket temp gauge under the dash that was already thereand it works fine. It runs 30 pounds of oil pressure and the generator is charging sothis truck isready to drive.
Mechanically everything isin good condition. Here are a few things I have done to the truck since pulling it out of the barn.
I was told the engine was rebuilt 1,000 miles before it was parked in 1996.I power washed the engine and installeda new valve cover and side cover gasket. I installed a new 6 volt battery and replaced the wiring and switches as needed. It runs and drives fine, the only thing I noticed is a vibration when decelerating in gear at higher speeds but this did not bother me so I didn't have it fixed. I have driven it over 100 miles since getting it running and it has not missed a beat.It just had the oil and coolant changed so it is ready to drive. I didn't rebuild any of the suspension but it all looks decent and the truck drives nice. The tires are decentand it has new GM rally style wheels.
I am selling the truck to finance my sons 67 short bed truck build. I don't need to sell it and it will be hard to find another one in this condition but I want to get his truck done in time for his senior pictures.
