1968 Chevrolet Corvette Description

This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette convertible has a lot of things going for it. One, t's an almost entirely original survivor in the purest sense of the word. Two, t's a relatively rare L79 327/350 with a 4-speed, atching-numbers, f course. And three, t's outrageously affordable for a car with such an impressive pedigree. That's pretty much entirely original code 984 Safari Yellow paint on the fiberglass bodywork and while it shows plenty of patina from its age, don't think I would change a thing. There are plenty of shiny, estored Corvettes at any show, ut when you park this all-original car next to them, he crowds form instantly. It's in good shape for its age and it's obvious that the bodywork underneath has never been hit or damaged. Everything fits just about where the St. Louis line workers put it decades ago and there's just no way to replicate originality, o the car has an undeniable charm. The all-new '68 Corvette has a pure look, qually influenced by American muscle and European sophistication, nd the slender chrome bumpers are a big part of why enthusiasts prefer the early C3s. The originality also extends to things like the lenses, indow glass, nd even the emblems, aking this car an excellent candidate for preservation class competition. The black interior is likewise mostly original, ncluding the seats, oor panels, nd dash pad. It's possible that the carpets have been replaced at some point simply because they're too nice to be original, ut then again, aybe not because everything is pretty darned good. All the instruments are fully functional as is the AM/FM radio in the dash. The seats are still comfortable for long cruises on summer days and the woodgrained steering wheel warms up the otherwise monochromatic interior. That big Hurst cue ball shifter manages a Muncie 4-speed transmission, hich is how this car came from the factory and the hardware feels bulletproof on the road. A new beige convertible top was recently installed and it fits well and seals up nicely, ut if that's not good enough, here's also an optional removable hardtop wrapped in black vinyl for a classic look and all-weather protection. The L79 was the highest-performing small block available in 1968, ffering 350 horsepower from 327 cubic inches. This is the car's original, umbers-matching engine, hich certainly helps with its pedigree, nd we have to admit that there are few thrills more visceral than running a high-revving small block V8 through the gears. The engine bay is nicely preserved but not restored, o all the right parts are there but it's not over-done. Chevy Orange paint, few chrome bits, nd factory hardware throughout help preserve the survivor look and feel. It starts easily and runs well thanks to proper maintenance throughout the years, ncluding new gaskets throughout the engine. The 4-speed transmission shifts easily and the 3.36 gears out back are a good choice with the strong-running L79. The front suspension and brakes have been recently rebuilt and there's a new exhaust system underneath that sounds great. Factory Rally wheels and 235/60/15 white-letter radials round out the list of hardware. This is a great find for the preservationist who loves original cars. With the original build sheet still attached to the tank and a file full of maintenance records, t's also got a great pedigree to go with its awesome originality. Call today!
