This is a matching number 1969 Chevelle SS 396/375hp, L78, Red, 4-spd car. It is a real original engine L78 with a partial build sheet and two registered owners. There is a title from 1972 showing what we believe to be the first and second owners name and address. The car was bought new near Boston and has stayed here its entire life. This Chevelle still has the original rectangular port Hi-Po heads that only came on L78 and the 427/435hp corvette engines. We believe the engine has never been out of the car. It runs great and the solid lifters still seem to be there as well. Also the original Winters aluminum intake is on the car. The carb and transmission are not original. A 12 bolt posi rear (4.10 gears) is still in the car and documented on the build sheet to be correct. This Chevelle is a very unique high performance SS with only a bench seat and a 4-spd. Of course, ithaspower disc brakes which were mandatory with the SS option. It is a real code 52 Garnet Red car as well. The car is pretty solid with a good frame. I had a driver's floor and one half a trunk pan welded in. I also had both the front and rear seats reupholstered. The paint is shiny, but this Chevelle deserves a true restoration. There is bondo in the quarters and patches in the outer wheel houses. The grill and headlight bezels need attention. The engine runs strong and the car would make a decent driver with a little effort. The wipers don't work and the car needs tail pipes.
When is the last time you saw a true documented, original engine 1969 Chevelle SS 396/375hp L78 car for sale for a decent price. This is not a recreation or a tribute, but the real deal. You never see one with its original engine, never mind a red 4-spd car with a build sheet. This was the hottest car in 1969 for General Motors, maybe even faster than a 427 vette. My reserve is quite low because I want this car to go to a good home where it can be cherished and restored to its true potential. .
