1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Description

"Stunning" is the word I most often hear regarding my 1964 Corvair Monza. This was my first car. I purchased it in 1986 and have owned and cared for this car for the last 30 years.
This Corvair recently took second place at one of New England's largest Corvair gathering (Volksvair), and has also won multiple Peoples' Choice awards. The color is Goldwood Yellow, a 1964 GM factory color. This Monza has the highly desirable 4 speed manual transmission and the high output, numbers matching 110 hp motor.
History: The car was completely restored inside and out, including a full engine rebuild just prior to my purchase in 1986. In 2007-2008, I decided it needed a little spicing up, so I changed the color from the original Palomar Red Poly (maroon) to the current yellow. This was done with expert care, stripping and resurfacing the body as needed using a guide coat, and finally painting with Nason polyurethane base coat / clear coat. The result is a show quality paint job. All of the chrome and the stainless steel trim pieces are in excellent condition. The new paint has held up extremely well, looking as good today as when it was freshly done.
In conjunction with the repaint, a mechanical sorting was performed as well including:
- new flywheel and clutch using the Clark's Corvair deluxe clutch kit- new fuel pump- all new brake lines both hard and soft, new wheel cylinders, new master cylinder, new brake shoes- new Clark's top-shelf adjustable shocks (front set to soft, rear set to firm)- battery relocation to front trunk for better weight distribution- fitment of Performance brand 15" x 6" alloy wheels with new Dunlop G-force sport radials. Original steel wheels with very good tires and original wire wheel hubcaps are included in the sale if you want them.- new suspension bushings, ball joints, etc.- new voltage regulator; generator rebuilt- new rear axle bearings and U-joints
This car handles wonderfully, very neutral and surprisingly smooth ride. '64 is the year GM solved the handling issues. If anything, it is a bit too civilized, as there is no body roll, no understeer, no oversteer. We recently drove this car ~5 hrs each way to Watkins Glen and arrived comfortable and rested.
Needs:- top is in very good condition but not perfect. It is watertight, but there are a 3 or 4 small tears (less than 2" long) which have been repaired and sealed- there is a small seam separation in the front passenger seat, visible in the photos- engine compartment needs cosmetics and detailing- the radio doesn't work.
This Monza coupe is ready to enjoy. It has a fresh tune-up and oil change. Fly in to PVD and drive it home.
