1965 Chevrolet Corvette "L79" Coupe Description

1965 Chevrolet Corvtte Coupe!
1965 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
Milano Maroon / White Leather - L79 327/350HP

You are viewing a privately owned 1965 Chevrolet Corvette!
Classic Cars Online is helping the owner with the presentation and listing of this vehicle.
You will be purchasing this vehicle directly from the owner who has owned this coupe for the last 40 plus years. The odometer is showing only 24,650 miles.
When the current owner purchased the vehicle in the fall of 1976 the odometer didn't work and was showing 15,869.
He had it repaired by a local Chevrolet dealer in the spring of 1977.
The total mileage is unknown but the brake rotors have never been turned. The rear rotors were riveted to the spindles for assembly at the factory.
The owner had to drilled them out to replace the bearings and repair the emergency brake. Because of this, he believes the mileage should be fairly low.
We will try to describe and go over most of the car, please read and view all of the 86 pictures listed below.
Would you buy a car on ebay with four pictures and one paragraph of description? NO.
That is why at Classic Cars Online, our listings will go over and show every area of the vehicle that is up for auction.
Bid with confidence!

Body & Paint: This vehicle was originally Tuxedo Black. (Code A-A) Sometime before the current owner purchased the vehicle in 1976, it was already repainted with "Milano Maroon". (Code M-M) The 40 plus year old paint is holding up pretty well. It's not great, but there is no checking or hazing going on. It has a 427-style hood with 327 emblems. The scoop is cracked along its base at the hood. The hood also has some chips and paint cracks. (See the close up photos.) The front clip is chipped on both sides at the hood hinges and the top of the wheel wells. The doors each have 3 or 4 chips at the body line and 3 or 4 small drill holes from past mirrors. The rear clip has small chips above the wheel wells. I believe the vehicle still retains all its original fiberglass panels, but some fiberglass patch work can be seen on the driver's front fender. The gaps and fit on the body panels are O.K., but the passenger's door could be adjusted a little to fit the body lines better. The two headlight motors have been gone over and are opening and closing fine.
Chrome & Trim: The chrome is in very decent shape. There are some minor scratches on the bumpers but no pitting, dulling or rust. The windshield stainless trim is sprung at the bottom center. It will not stay in its clips. (See Photo #33) The driver side rocker is dinged from someone before me trying to straighten it. The two chrome side Bowtie mirrors are in great condition with no pitting or broken glass.
Interior: Originally the interior was silver. (Code 426) It was professionally redone in 1984 with white leather. The Maroon and White color combination looks great. It has white leather seats and center cushion along with white door panels and roof headliner. The black carpet is Mercedes quality, at least in 1984. The seats, door panels, dash pad, carpet, and headliner are all in very good condition with no rips, holes, marks, wear issues or any other problem. All of the gauges, lights, wipers and horns are working as they should. The rear power vent fan is working. The factory AM/FM radio works, but only so-so. (No power antenna.) The clock is not working, which is pretty typical for these original clocks. The steering wheel is in great condition with no cracks. The glove box and center console area are very nice with no dents, scratches or marks. The seat belts are from a 1968 Buick Skylark because they look better than the originals. Matching shoulder harness belts are also installed. In the storage compartments behind the seats, there is an original jack and tools.
Glass: All of the date coded glass pieces are original with the only exception being the passenger side window. The glass is in good shape. The windshield does have some wiper rub marks. The door windows roll up and down without any problems. The two crank out vent windows are also working great.
Engine Compartment: The engine compartment is clean but not show quality. It has a 327 Cu. In. 350 hp engine. (L79 Option) This engine is not original to the vehicle. The block casting number indicates it is a 1966 block. There are no numbers/codes stamped into the front engine pad. It may possibly be a replacement block from the factory, I do not know. It has a lot of the correct looking items for this 327/350HP engine. Aluminum intake, stock exhaust manifolds, chrome air cleaner, radio shielding, valve covers and carburetor.
Please see the "Mechanical" section below for more details on what was done to the rebuilt power plant. The stock radiator along with a Flex fan is keeping this Corvette running cool.
Wheels & Tires: The wheels are imitation knock offs, bolt ons with stock looking center spinners/cones to conceal the lug nuts. All four of them are in great condition with no scratches or pitting. Very easy to remove and install. Mounted on these wheels are white letter B.F.Goodrich Radial T.A.’s tires. They have excellent tread but are 35 years old. They show no cracking and dry rot. I also have an extra set of storage tires I use in the winter. (Not Driving in the winter, just storing the vehicle for the winter.) They are on 15" x 8" Chevy rally rims. I have a set of four stock trim rings and center caps that go along with the rally wheels. (See Photo #86)
Undercarriage: The frame is original and very solid with no repairs or weak areas. It was painted with 5 coats of Rustoleum paint in 1979. It is gloss black. Looking at the undercarriage photos, you can see some of this paint is starting to peel and flake off, but the frame is not crusty, pitted or weak. A new aluminum fuel line was installed when the frame was being painted.
Please see the "Mechanical" section below for more details on the exhaust system, suspension, and brakes.
Nine times out of ten, people selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the underside. The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, that is why there are several pictures of the bottom in the photo gallery. Please view them all and see why this vehicle is better then most.
Mechanical: Engine-Transmission-Rear End:
The is engine 327 cu.in. / 350 h.p. (L79 Option). It was rebuilt shortly after the owner purchased the vehicle in 1976. There are roughly 8K miles since the engine was redone.
The engine block was machined by Weber Racing. The cylinders were bored .020 over (displacement now 329 c.i). New cam and crank bearings .010 under. The crankshaft was ground .010 under. New 11:1 compression pistons. (.020 over). It received a new 350 c.i. / 350 h.p. Camshaft. (G.M. part no. 3896962 hydraulic.) Specs: Intake .450 lift, Exhaust .460 lift, Duration 270. New Crower anti pump up hydraulic lifters. TRW double roller chain timing set. GM blue tip push rods. GM aluminum intake manifold. Holley carb – model 03310. Z-28 oil pump.
The cylinder heads where machined by Galavans Automotive.
16 Teflon valve seals, intake valves – 1.94" dia., exhaust valves – 1.60" dia., 3 angle valve grind, Milled and cc’d to 63 cc., New rocker arms with grooved rocker balls, New Chevy valve springs.
The Muncie wide ratio 4-speed transmission (M20) was rebuilt by Bruce Transmission. A Hurst competition plus shifter is installed and works flawlessly. The clutch was replaced in 2010 and is adjusted and performs great. The stock rear differential is a 3.55:1 with positraction. (Code: AN 4 30 65) Which stands for: 3.55:1 Posi, April 30, 1965.
Brakes:
The vehicle still has its stock non-power disc brakes setup. The four brake calipers were rebuilt and received stainless steel sleeves. – From the Stainless Steel Brake Corp. There are no leaks or issues with the brake system. They were all adjusted and are working great. They do not pulsate, fade, or pull.
Suspension:
The suspension was redone using all "F40" Special Suspension parts. Urethane bushings in front sway bar and control arms, rear strut rods, leaf spring and I believe also in rear control arms. Bilstein shocks. Tie rod ends, idler arm, ball joints, and wheel bearings all around, and the U-joints were replaced. The vehicle drives nice and tight without any issues.
Exhaust:
Stock exhaust manifolds feeding into a 2 ½ inch aluminized dual exhaust system that was installed in 2010. It still looks almost new with no problems or leaks. At the rear, the exhaust exits below the rear bumpers through the rear valance with stock looking exhaust tips. The vehicle sounds great.

It's a "Turn key" type of car. It's not perfect and the paint/body could use a little work,
but it's better then most of the "driver" type of cars you see a the local shows. The chrome is very nice along with the wheels.
The white leather interior looks outstanding with no issues. It has been gone over mechanically, and it is solid.
The owner for the last 40 years has all the receipt from all the major work that he had done. (Engine and transmission
rebuild, new interior, suspension and exhaust work, etc...)
With a little detailing and tinkering, someone could ready take this Corvette to the next level.
If someone wants to get into a very solid C2 Corvette for not a lot of money, this is the vehicle.
It's not one of those high priced, NCRS restored cars that you will be afraid to take out and drive.
The vehicle is located in Brunswick, Ohio. (44212 Zip Code)
Brunswick is located just south of the Cleveland, Ohio area.
You will be purchasing this vehicle directly the private owner who has owned this classic for the last 40 years.
The odometer is working and showing 24,650 miles. The actual mileage is unknown. (But assume to be low)
The vehicle has a free and clear Ohio title that is ready to be signed over.
