1928 Chevrolet Model AB 2DR Sedan Description

1928 Chevrolet Model AB Two-door Sedan

Cosmetically restored – paint, chrome and interior 171 CID inline four-cylinder engine Three-speed manual transmission Black and green exterior and green, patterned cloth interior Mechanically actuated four-wheel brakes Windshield visor and cowl lights Whitewall tires, natural-style wooden wheels and rear-mounted spare tire Moto meter gauges

A memento to the carefree and unrestrained Flapper Days, MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer this 1928 Chevrolet Model AB two-door sedan. This was the first model to offer four-wheel brakes. Other improvements included an engine thermostat, indirect instrument lighting and Alemite fittings to ease chassis lubrication.

Fitted in a two-tone green and black exterior with pinstriping and a green patterned cloth interior, this car has been lovingly restored, including its paint, chrome and interior. The paint is in very good order, as is most of the glass, although the rear side window on the driver’s side has a blemish at the top. Car only comes with a driver’s side windshield wiper tucker under its windshield visor. Most of the lights are in good shape but the rear-mounted center high stoplight has a cracked lens and the car has cowl lights to supplement the headlamps. The car rides on natural-toned wood wheels with spokes, surrounded by four-ply tires, size 4.50-21, and there is a spare mounted in the rear. All of the body panels are straight, including the rubberized fabric roof and runningboards plus the bumpers are in good order.

The AB’s new look was one of the first projects from GM’s Art & Colour studio and followed its creation of the 1927 LaSalle. Compared to the 1927 Chevy, the 1928 National displayed a longer and straighter hood, flowing fender lines, lower profile and smoothly integrated body panels. That longer hood was no styling frivolity; it was necessary to accommodate the six-cylinder engine that was on the horizon.

Under the vee-shaped hood is a 171 CID inline four-cylinder, nicknamed the “Stovebolt Four.” This was its swan song year and for its final run, it received higher compression, larger valves, aluminum pistons and a revised carburetor. It is linked to a three-speed manual transmission.

Inside, the restored, patterned green cloth is eye-catching and the front, split bench seats are in very good condition. The corresponding carpet is in good shape, while the headliner, dashboard and four-spoke, wood-rimmed steering wheel and Moto Meter gauges are all in very good order. The matching door panels are in good order, as is the rearview mirror and gear shift lever.

More than three-quarters of a million Series ABs were manufactured in a variety of body styles. Looking very similar to the 1927 Series AA Capitol, the wheelbase of the Series AB was increased by four inches to 107 inches. The updated look was one of the first projects from GM’s Art & Colour studio.

This car is ideal for taking the grandchildren out for ice cream, a picnic in the park or just over the river and through the woods!

Competition to this Chevy in 1928 included Ford’s Model A and Plymouth’s Model Q.

This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 60,227 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
