1949 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Description

1949 Chevrolet Tin Woodie

1949 Chevrolet Tin Woody Station Wagon – Tow Vehicle
We are selling this 1949 Chevrolet for a customer of ours. He bought this car at auction in Scottsdale in January 2017 with the intent of using it to tow his Vintage Airstream trailer.
The previous owners had installed a Chevy 350 V8 Crate Motor with power steering, a turbo 350 automatic transmission and modern gauges. They had also installed a Chevrolet front sub-frame complete with coil springs and disc brakes. A Chevrolet rear end was also installed. We believe these items may have been sourced from an El Camino. New springs were added at that time. The speedometer shows 890 miles. We can only guess that the gauges were installedwhen the new engine and other upgrades were made.
While the previous owner had certainly improved the cars power train and suspension, the car was still not up to the challenge of safely towing a travel trailer.
The current owner had us install a power brake system that is boosted hydraulically instead of with vacuum which greatly increased the stopping power. We installed a trailer brake controller that allows you to dial in the amount of trailer braking. Now the Tin Woody and trailer stop incredibly well!
We also added a rear sway bar and rear air springs in addition to the leaf springs to help keep the ride height and sway in check. There is an air compressor installed under the car and a controller on the dash to set the pressure. Five new Coker 215-75-15 wide white wall radial tires were installed and the car was aligned. We had a local hitch company install a hitch and trailering harness that would be up to the task.
To make sure the car would run cool while towing in the summer, a new aluminum radiator, water pump, electric fan and belt was installed. This was also done with the idea of adding air conditioning in the future.
New shoulder harnesses and many more small items were addressed and in total $16,601.47 in upgrades and repairs were performed since the purchase in January.
Now that the car is mechanically complete, the owner has decided that he wants a 30’ Airstream and he will be towing it with his Ford Diesel Pickup, so the Tin Woody needs to go.
The paint and interior of the car are at good driver level. I would call it a “15 footer”. It gets lots of stares and thumbs up. You would be proud to own it but on closer inspection you will find some flaws in the paint. The chrome and stainless arereally nice and the interior is in nice shape. The wood is really pretty good with a nick here and there and the only damaged wood is the front edge of the driver’s door panel but that is hard to see until you open the door as you will see in the photo. In my opinion it’s fine as is for a rig like this. It looks like it still retains the original floor pans with no rust through. Whether you want to tow your vintage race car, smaller airstream trailer or just cruise around on the weekends, the car is ready to go.
We welcome and highly recommend personal inspection of this or any car before purchase.
We will assist in the shipping of your vehicle if necessary, as we ship many vehicles throughout the USA and other countries.
