I bought this 1972 Chevelle Nomad last year and it quickly became the “go to” car for all the family errands. The rear capacity was great for trips to Costco and Home Depot. The car is reliable, solid, runs strong and drives like a 3 or 4 year old car.
This Nomad was well taken care of and is close to original with one repaint. Body is straight and solid, no dings and with good gaps. Chrome and stainless trim are straight and have good shine. Rot-free and no signs of repair in the typical Chevelle rust areas. Paint has two bubbles smaller than dimes on the roof near the driver’s door rain gutter. The hood had a few dings in it, so I replaced it with an OEM factory hood that needs to be painted and the trim installed (included). I can include the old hood (with dings and correct paint) if it will fit in the rear or you make pick-up arrangements.
Both the Original 307 Engine and TH350 Transmission purr like a kitten. Power steering and power brakes. Everything works including the windshield washer squirters. All windows work smoothly as they should and all lights and gauges work perfectly. As far as I can tell, the only thing that does not work is the gear selection indicator. All accessories work including the original push-button AM radio with antenna in the windshield. The heater works great. The interior is original and has some minor gouges in the door panels and a seam is breaking open on the driver’s seat. Spare tire and jack are there in the original location.
Tailgate opens in two ways. Like a door for easy access, or like a tailgate that lays down flat with the cargo area. 2nd seat folds forward, no third seat. This would be a perfect car for surfers, tailgaters, campers, or anyone who needs to haul some stuff (painters, salesmen, etc). An extra rear window is included (previous owner included it with sale to me). I updated the brakes to power and all the brake components were inspected and given a good bill of health. The new tires from 2015 have little mileage on them and run smoothly at all speeds. Nomad was given a fresh oil change, transmission service, and new coolant. No leaks or drips.
This Nomad draws attention wherever it goes. It brings fond memories to older generations and the SUV generations have never seen a station wagon like this before. People on the road turn their heads to get a good look and when it’s parked on the street or in a parking lot the most common comment is “Nice Car”.
I hate to see it go because the originality and condition of this car is very rare. It is fun and a pleasure to drive. My wife loves it and hates to see it go too, but she bought a convertible so we need to sell this car.
Contact me with questions or picture requests. Reserve is below NADA Classic Car book. The MECUM auction guys mention that station wagons may be the next “hot item”. You are welcome to come to San Diego and inspect and test drive the car. Sold as-is where-is. Thanks for looking.
