1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Description

Nassau Blue w/Blue interior, L72 427/425hp, 4-speed.The ’66 Corvette marked a milestone of a sort as the MK IV big block engine that was introduced the previous year grew from 396ci to 427ci. And thus, a legend was born . . .You got two choices of big block power in ’66. Along with the cubic inch increase, the new L36 427 put out 390hp and featured hydraulic lifters. It still had stump pulling torque, but it was a bit more user-friendly for daily use. But for those of us who ...just wanted raw hp, the solid lifter L72 was just the ‘E’ ticket! This engine was similar to the previous year’s L78, but with the additional ci.’s. torque. The funny thing was, when first introduced, the L72 was advertised as putting out 450hp. But later in the year, it was mysteriously decreased to 425. Most likely insurance companies were to blame for the change. However, there were no modifications done to the engine to cause the decrease in hp. It was just a decal change on the air cleaner. Is a car capable of being a “Pretty Hulk”, this ’66 might be the one! The Nassau Blue exterior with matching interior certainly qualifies as pretty. But, lifting the domed big block hood to peek inside the engine bay will reveal a Hulk of a 427 cubic inch beast with 425hp to help propel you to (semi-legal) velocities in a hurry along the highways and byways of the U.S. of A!This example has been very nicely “frame-up” restored and features its correct L72 engine mated to a close ratio 4-spd manual transmission and posi rear end. Other options include power 4-wheel disc brakes, Teak/tele steering column, am/fm radio with power antenna, side exhaust and knock-off wheels w/Goldline radials. It also happens to be a great and powerful driver! What else would you expect from the top Corvette powerplant offered in ’66.
