Up for auction is a 1988 Chevy K2500 4x4 pickup. The body has 174,xxx miles on it. The transmission was replaced in early 2015 and has accumulated just over 1,000 miles. The eBay title check shows a “minor” title issue, and a closer look reveals that the odometer was, at one point, reported to have reached its mechanical limits. This seems to have been done in error, as the mileage trail shown follows the truck perfectly. The original 700R4 was replaced with a more modern 4L60 (not the 4L60E). The original 5.0 305ci engine was replaced in February 2017 with a 40,000mi 305 from a 1995 C1500.
When the engine swap was performed, brand new exhaust manifolds, gaskets, and Y-pipe were also installed. It’s a completely brand new exhaust from the head to the exhaust tip, though there does seem to be a leak coming from the driver-side Y-pipe/manifold connection. Being fitted with the 5.0L rather than the more common 5.7L, it is not a high performance truck. However, the engine runs very well despite the exhaust leak. I had initially thought the truck was originally red and repainted white, because red paint can be seen, especially in the door jambs. Closer inspection to some areas shows that the original color may have actually been white, and had been re-painted red the re-painted white again. The truck had rust that was repaired. If you look closely, you can see the rear fenders were replaced. This was done by a previous owner. The cab corners had some rust holes but those were repaired very nicely. The truck is clean overall but, remember, it was a work truck. It’s not perfect and shows some dings, dents, and scratches.
The truck has a fresh NYS inspection that was done on 10/06/17. The only issue found was that the pitman arm and idler arm were worn and needed to be replaced. This was done at a cost of $560. The rest of the truck was found to be mechanically-sound and passed inspection.
The truck has an Optima Yellowtop battery and a high-output alternator. The original 4066 sealed-beam headlights were replaced by H4s for better visibility. The gas tank was replaced in October 2016, and new fuel lines and fuel filter were installed in in September 2017. The front and rear brakes were replaced and new brake lines installed in October 2016. The truck also features an aftermarker rear defroster, aftermarket Pioneer stereo (with USB and aux inputs) and Kenwood speakers. It also has a remote start, auxiliary gauges for Volts, Water Temp. and Transmission Temp, a drop-in bedliner, and a UWS gullwing toolbox with power inverter and an external, waterproof AC power outlet.
Lighting: The truck features an amber 48” Federal Signal Streethawk lightbar, and auxiliary KC Daylighter flood work lights. The work lights are on a three-position switch and can be 1) Off, 2) On, or 3) On with Reverse. The factory reverse lights have been replaced with amber hideaway strobes. Rigid Industries SR-M Backup Lights were installed below the factory taillight and serve as aftermarket (and DOT-approved) backup lights. These light are also on a switch, and can be 1) On or 2) On With Reverse. There are also amber hideaway strobes in the front turn signal housings, and the strobe controller is located on the floor behind the seat.
The NADA "average" value of this truck is over $4,000. I personally think that number is on the high side but, even so, the auction will start far below that number and be held with no reserve. The highest bidder will win the truck.
Bidders are responsible for their own inspections. There is no warranty, expressed or implied. The truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
