DESCRIPTION
This car is being offered with the starting bid of $1.00 and NO RESERVE, meaning that the highest bidder at the end of the sale will own the car.
This car MUST be sold, so PLEASE make sure your funds are in order before bidding. We are also open to any and all offers to BUY IT NOW, and will work with you to assist with shipping, financing, and anything else to make your decision-making easier.
We will reply quickly, and look forward to placing the car with a worthy new owner.
This first thing to capture your attention on the car is the stance. Long, low, and with more unique features than you can count, the car is the epitome of what a Kustom is, and when you compare it next to the Harry Hoskin Bel Air from 1955 that was restyled by George Barris, you clearly see where the inspiration came from!
A 1955 Chevy Corvette Grill has been carefully grafted into the front of the car, and its gleaming chrome finish still looks like new from every angle!
1954 Chevy wrap-around parking lights look amazing, and are in exceptional condition as well!
Out back, just like the Hoskin car after it was restyled in 1963, a set of Packard Clipper tail light units were carefully molded into the rear of the car for a seamless and clean look.
Hand stamped louvers in the hood and trunk really look fantastic, and fit the Kustom nature of the car to the letter.
Hood was cleaned up along with the trunk to accentuate the clean lines.
The body is exceptionally straight, all steel, and has no sign of bondo, mud, or any kind of BS. Door gaps, panel alignment, and seams are all spot on, and the work that was done has been completed to the highest level and shows exceptionally from every angle.
The paint on the car is stunning, and I took photos of it early in the morning to capture the detail of the car, but it shows much brighter in person, as you can see in other sunlight photos.
It is glossy, slick, and wet looking, and thanks to being hand detailed and waxed over the years, is void of all swirl marks and other issues you generally see.
As you can see in the photos, it really is a mirror-like finish, and reflects its surrounds about as clearly as you can ask for!
There are a handful of truly minor little blemishes on the car like stone chips, small hairline scuffs, and other signs of normal use, but nothing that detracts from the overall presentation of the Bel Air. The worst blemish is a set of little stone chips on the under roll of the driver side side-skirt, and I have attached a close up photo of it to show you just how inconsequential it is.
The chrome and bright work on the car is in exceptional condition, as you would expect of car that has been garage kept in climate-controlled storage. There are no signs of any pitting, damage, flaking, or other issues, and you’ll have a hard time finding fingerprints on it!
Dummy Appleton spot lights look fantastic on the car, and are in great condition, as are the polished wiper arms.
All of the window trim front, sides, and back, is in exceptional condition, and functions as it should.
Bumpers are gleaming bright and clean, and are damage free.
Door handles show like new, and you will notice the lack of door locks to keep the look clean. The doors lock and unlock via keyless remote, with a manual safety override.
Functional Lake Pipes on the side of the car look amazing, and rear exit chrome straight pipes have a full flame-thrower system installed, but currently disconnected, as well. The flame-thrower worked when he disconnected it, but I have not reconnected and tested it, so I am not sure if it needs anything addressed to work or not.
Glass on the car is in very good condition, with only the faintest signs of use, no cracks or chips, and no laminate issues or fogging. The etching is beautifully done and shows wonderfully.
Windows glide up and down on newer fuzzies, and the weather stripping and seals on the car are in exceptional condition as well.
Side trim is in exceptional shape as well, as is the enamel finish baked into it, and the rocker trim looks beautiful as well.
The car rolls on gorgeous chrome wire wheels with Chevy Tri-Bar centers that show like new! The car has not been formally detailed by me, but you can see that the current owner keeps it in about as perfect condition as you could ask for. The wheels may have some dust or light grime, but are damage, pit, and issue free.
The wheels are wrapped in Classic wide whitewall radial tires that look perfect on it, and have only a few thousand miles on them to boot! They are damage free, and show wonderfully!
The cars exterior has a tasteful array of hand pinstriped details accentuating it which are very clean looking, done in one-shot, and about as nice a job as you could ask for! Nothing over-the-top, just a few accents to trim out the car.
Finally, a set of BARRIS KUSTOM body badges adorn the front fenders, paying tribute to the Legend who inspired this build.
Overall, save for a few very minor blemishes, the cars exterior is a solid 9.2 out of 10, and really is about clean and nice as they come.
You could take the car to a show RIGHT NOW and not even have to hit with a Cal-Duster to win something. It is THAT nice.
Pop open the hood, and you are met by an ultra-clean engine bay that is chock full of all the gleaming bright and shiny things to make you happy to show it at any event.
Power is from a GM 265ci V8 that was completely redone from the block out with stock style exhaust manifolds, polished OFFENHAUSER intake, polished and painted EDELBROCK valve covers, BRAND NEW Rochester Carb’s and a Tri-Power set-up that is fully functional and tuned to absolute perfection, polished A/C compressor, chrome alternator, chrome brake res cap, chrome pulley system, chrome water pump, chrome generator, chrome battery box, coolant overflow, trim rail, steering unit, and more!
It shows some dirt and grime from normal use, but presents very nice right now, so imagine how great it will look when you take the time to wipe it all done and get the nooks and crannies clean after you get it home!
The engine is a relatively stock build, with no crazy cams or hi compression, so you can run it comfortably on regular pump gas, and maintain it easily too. It has proven to be quite reliable and issue free in the 4 or so years my client has owned it, and has never left him stranded on a road trip, or short cruise into town!
Plugs, plug wires, fuel pump and filter, all of the belts, lines and hoses, and everything else on the car has been refreshed in the past 3,000 miles, so you don’t need to be concerned with anything but driving it.
I would not personally hesitate to fly in and drive this car home anywhere in the lower 48, weather permitting, as I am quite confident it would make the trip.
I spent some time with the car and found it to be a remarkably smooth running machine with ample power and torque, a smooth idle, absolutely LOVELY exhaust tone, and no known issues to contend with.
We left the car runnin for quite a long time while reviewing it and photographing it, and I have to say that it did not even come CLOSE to getting hot. Thanks to a massive, custom-fabricated aluminum radiator mated to a hi-flow water pump with super-sized electric fan, temperatures stay in the high 150 range without the air, and low180 rangeWITH the air, even in our obscenely hot 90 degree Florida weather!
Fenderwells are painted and clean, although they are dirty from the owners last little road trip, but nothing a visit from a hose and towel will not fix.
The engine gets power to the rear end via a refurbished Muncie 4-speed with HD clutch and pressure plate. This unit turns a custom-balanced driveshaft connected to the stock rebuilt rear end with a 3.36 gear ratio that makes for fairly friendly highway manners without sacrificing around town muscle.
Everything does what it should to get power to the ground, and the clutch has smooth and sure take-up and travel, strong engagement, and handles up shifts and down shifts without issue.
Transmission snicks surely into each gear without issue or incident, and the rear end is noise free and fully compliant to the whims of the drivers right foot.
Dropped spindles and A-Arms lower the front, while a traditional block flip kit brings the rear end down to earth, both without sacrificing ride quality and handling.
Disc brakes up front with drums in the back bring the car down from speed without any issues, and no excess modulation, pulling, fade, or wander.
The car tracks beautifully on the road, and does not pull or track oddly at all. You can sit back with one finger on the wheel and relax while cruising the boulevard OR the Interstate.
The underside of the car is clean, neat, and rust free, and shows a light coating of rust proofing spray that still allows you to see all the metal stampings and marks on the undercarriage.
This car was not built to sit on a rack over mirrors, so the underside is not trimmed in chrome or painted to match. It is simply a clean, solid, and issue-free undercarriage with a complete array of functional neon-lighting installed for use at shows and events.
Open the doors of the car and you are met by an interior that was done in a period style with a nod to modern convenience.
The super comfy front and rear bench seats are in great shape, with white base and surrounds, red piping, and matching red pleats as inserts.
Rear seat looks to be 100% damage and issue free from top to bottom, and the front only has one, Quarter-sized mark on the driver side back edge that was torn and touched up by novice interior person to keep it from becoming worse. It would be easy to just replace that entire side panel, which we can do for you here for $89.00 over and above your winning bid. Other than that one single mark, the rest of the seating surfaces look amazing, and are as comfortable as you could ask for!
Side panels, kick panels, and rear panels are all trimmed in matching off-white leather, and show wonderfully.
Dash pad is capped in the same leather, and looks amazing, with no issues or damage.
Door panels and rear panels get the same off-white red and black leather as the seats, and is in exceptional condition.
Rear deck is done in the off-white pleated leather, and holds two polished billet perforated speaker grills covering 6x9 premium speakers. It shows like new.
The headliner is a stock Bel-Air unit done in matching off-white, with beautiful chrome bows, functional dome lights, and matching visors, one of which has been signed by George Barris himself!
Carpeting is in very nice shape throughout the car, save for two small areas about the size of a nickel on the driver side of the seat. I have photographed these to show you how small they are, and I am sure that any competent upholstery shop can use some material from under the seat to repair them for a modest investment. Our local shop can do it for an additional $100.00 should you wish me to handle prior to delivery.
Stock style two-tone steering wheel from a 1960 Impala is in excellent condition, and the horn button and emblem look great too!
Chrome column with flaming white cap looks great, as does the turn signal lever.
Dash itself is clean and undamaged, and has the stock switchgear in place for lights, wipers, and the stock-appearing AM-FM cassette unit that is mounted in the factory location.
A functional 12V socket holds a stock-style cigar lighter, and the stock, locking key switch functions as it should as well.
Chrome glove box looks great, and has a chrome gauge package mounted below it that holds functional gauges for monitoring AMP, OIL, and TEMP.
A vintage style under-dash A/C unit is actually a modern reproduction, and blows ice cold thanks to a full R134A conversion, and a driver side custom installed vent to work with the vents on the main unit.
Factory Bel Air emblem over the clock looks amazing, as does the Chevy logo trim band across the whole dash.
Original gauge pod was cleaned and rebuilt, and holds a functional Speedo, Odometer, and working fuel and temp gauges, as well as indicator lights for the signals and high beam.
A custom under-dash pod was installed a year ago that holds a new AM/FM/CD/MP3/USB/iPhone capable stereo head unit. Wiring was rerouted from the in-dash cassette to this, but it can be removed and wired back to the cassette if you prefer when you get the car home.
Chrome E-Brake handle looks great, and works too!
Billet pedals for high beam, brake, clutch, and gas all look great and work as they should.
Muncie transmission gets input from a chrome HURST short stick with a flaming ball topper. It looks great, although the trim ring shows a bit of light patina.
All of the door pulls, window rollers, and vent window rollers are stock style units that show wonderfully.
Overall, the interior of the car shows to be a solid 8.6 out of 10 RIGHT NOW, and is only a few hundred dollars in simple repairs from being a 9.5.
Push the interior trunk release button and walk to the back of the car, and you are met by a fully finished trunk that is as nice as the interior!
Fully carpeted, and treated to the same combination of red, off-white, pleats, and hardware as the inside of the car, the trunk shows wonderfully, and appears to be damage and issue free.
A custom routed fuel filler resides inside, and is vented for safety, along with having a custom made catch to stop those inadvertent gasoline drips from damaging the interior when you fill-er-up!
Everything about the car is beautiful, from the chrome headlight trim rings to the stunning glass etching on the rear windows.
You can tell it was done right after spending just a few minutes looking it over.
It drives, looks, handles, stops, starts, and performs without issue or incident, and is more than proven and reliable as the 3,000 odd trouble free miles it has from its current owner will attest.
I have spent a lot of time inspecting, driving, and reviewing the car as though it were my own, and having put about 250 miles on it myself, I feel completely comfortable offering to my eBay followers Worldwide, and look forward to counting the new owner as another 100% SATISFIED eBay client!
