1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS Description
. Numbers matching 1969 Camaro SS 396 375HP TH400, rare automatic, 1 of 4889 L78 engines produced in 69. I bought the car last year in "driver condition" from a gentleman that owned it for approx 25 years. I started restoring the car while driving and showing it. Here are some details: 75,149 miles showing on the odometer-possibly original based on the condition of the unrestored parts on the car-Engine: Numbers Matching L78 396 Engine Block Number: 3955272 Engine Assembly Stamp: T0 08JL – (Jan 68, JL=L78/TH400) Engine VIN visible on oil filter pad area of block. New Holley 4346 replacement carb (original was missing) original intake manifold (verified date code 68 on bottom when I re-sealed gaskets), All original deep groove pulleys Crank 3955291 Water Pump 3947824 Power Steering 3941105 original water pump date code 125 8, original brake booster date code 9204 (2 0n frt tab) Original Distributor 1111499 date code 8L22 Original Transmission: numbers matching M40 code TH400 – Special L78 calibration, 6 bolt torque converter (375hp only) Transmission Stamp: CX-69 1518 date code 362 D55 code floor shift console Original Rear Axle: BV 0107 G1 positraction 4.10 Gear Rati, casting 3894860, exhaust manifolds, stainless steel chambered exhaust. Trim Tag Info: Build date 01B (2nd week of Jan) Paint Code 69-69 Cortez Silver Trim Code 711 (Black Vinyl) Equipment: Power Brakes, U69 AM/FM Radio, Power Steering. Distributor was rebuilt and calibrated by Jerry MacNeish's Camaro Hi Perf, Transmission case "re-skinned" by MacNeish, then completely rebuilt by ATI in Baltimore, new u-joints in original driveshaft, waterpump rebuilt by Arthur Gould Rebuilders, installed new correct radiator hoses, heater hoses, tower clamps, new power steering hoses, new plugs, date code plug wires, correct holders, cap, rotor, points, hidden MSD ignition box (helps 11:1 run on pump gas), new NOS idle stop solenoid, stainless steel trans cooler lines, stainless engine fuel lines, many other small details, nuts, bolts, hoses, etc, reciepts for all parts. Original Harrison radiator recored last August, replaced fan clutch with repro (have original), body is solid, previous owner stated it was repainted in lacquer about 12 years ago. Original GM fenders (date stamp visible), Original doors, Original gas tank (date stamp visible), Front floor pan sections have been replaced in front of the seats only, seat mount area, rear pan is perfect. Trunk floor and quarters were replaced at some point in the car's life (very nicely done) previous owner had a cowl hood and spoilers on the car, I removed them and installed the correct (reproduction) SS hood. The rear axle & suspension appear to be original & un-restored. Original owners manual, new reproduction tachometer and car cover included.
