If you are looking at this auction, chances are I don’t need to tell you what a M1009 CUCV is or how Rare it is to find a rust-free and mostly correct truck with upgrades performed in good taste.
For sale to the highest bidder: My “forever” truck. This is the truck I dreamed of owning as a child into adulthood and was finally able to purchase a worthy example about 5 years ago. Since then, I have been gathering any missing parts and performing tasteful upgrades to make this vehicle a pleasure to drive and own as part of my collection.
Description:
1985 Chevrolet M1009 CUCV (Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle) Also known as a “D10”
This vehicle was previously “stationed” in Oklahoma at a Communications Command and used by the U.S. Navy as a radio truck.
Rated at ¾ Ton capacity (due mainly to Heavy Duty rear springs)(Civilian K5 is ½ Ton rated)
Mechanical:
Engine: 6.2L “Detroit” Diesel. Starts and runs great!
Transmission: TH400 HD automatic with Transgo Shift kit installed
Axles: Correct 10 bolt front axle with 3.08 gear ratio. Correct 10 bolt rear axle with 3.08 gear ratio. GOV-Lock locking rear differential.
Transfer case: NP208 Aluminum case.
Wheels/tires: Correct Military Good-Year MTR 31-10.50x15 on Correct 15x8 steel wheels. Matching spare with correct mount and hardware. Camo spare tire cover.
Upgrades: Spin-On fuel filter with primer bulb and water separator.
1” Hex Lug Nut upgrade
Original Ignition Key-switch replaced (not faulty, only replaced to prevent theft)
Paint/Body:
Exterior: Original CARC Military Paint in woodland Camouflage pattern. Some small dents, rubs, nicks etc. **I have all 4 CARC Green Shackles (D-rings) that will be included with the sale of the truck**
Original sheet metal: inner fenders, fenders, doors, rockers, floor pan, etc. It does not appear that any body work has ever been done. ID plates on door jam and driver’s door correct and intact.
Interior: Original seats. One small tear in driver’s seat. Driver’s seat has the Military version of the “Club” anti-theft device (also known as a heavy chain bolted to the seat frame that wraps around the steering wheel and secured with a padlock.)
Original Glove Box RPO code sheet intact.
Correct Military Grey Dash pad- No cracks. Hard to find.
Correct Radio Speaker/handset mount on dashboard.
**Not shown in photos but included with the truck: BOTH Driver side (Ultra RARE) AND Passenger side rear Radio Mounts with braces and mounting hardware. **
Lockable 20mm Ammo can center console with cupholders and padded arm rest. Very sanitary and sturdy installation using riv-nuts in the factory console mounting locations using a custom bracket and stainless steel allen bolts.
Floor covered with Spray-in truck bedliner coating. Believe it or not... Truck had the factory plastic protective coating on the floor boards when I got the truck that I had to remove to spray the bedliner.
Tailgate is currently missing the hand-crank for the rear window as seen in the pictures. I have all the parts to put it back together but the window channels with felts have deteriorated due to age and need to be replaced. (about $150 from LMC truck)
Correct CARC Green Gerry can mount in rear compartment.
Correct Bridge plate with number placards
Correct and complete Pintle towing hitch and trailer wiring including all brackets, braces, etc.
Electrical:
Correct 12Volt/24Volt Military hybrid electrical system
Correct Delco 24V starter
Dual 100 Amp Alternators- function properly and dash indicators work as they should
Dual Group 31 Batteries mounted with factory holddowns- (Correct replacement for Original 6TL Military Batteries.)
Fully functional NATO Slave Plug Connection in Grille
Upgrades:
“Doghead” starter relay mod (see SteelSoldiers website for more info)
Glow plug Resistor bank bypass
New Wellman Military Spec Glow plugs
Parts for Glow plug controller manual override (plan to install this week)
