1950 Chevrolet 1 ton frame off
1950 Chevrolet Other Pickups 394 Description
This is a Canadian made 1950 Chevrolet 1 ton long box truck. It was saved from a farmers field a few years ago by a father and son team and it received a FULL FRAME OFF restoration. This is an original Alberta Canada truck from new, and was made in Canada. It has a 9 foot box with a 137 inch wheel base. The engine number is X391536, the model number is 1434, the body number is 505, the paint code is 30, the trim code is 394. I took this information off the body tag. It has a thriftmaster 216.5 - 92 HP inline 6 cylinder engine with a 3 speed standard transmission. I’ve been told the engine is original to the truck. It was NOT rebuilt but it is a good solid driver. I was told it has a new clutch. It does drive good and I find it smokes a bit when started.
I’ve had it in my collection for a few years now. I fire it up and take it out once in a while. It drives like a 1950 truck drove back in 1950. If your in a hurry, take out your sports car and leave this old girl at home. If you like the smiles and thumbs up and enjoy a slow cruise, she’s ready to go.
I had the fuel pump, battery, coil and radiator cap replaced last summer. It still has the 6 volt system and it all works fine.
I purchased it from the father and son who did the restoration. They seemed honest and nice folks. They finished off the rear box and installed the wood before I had it delivered. The body works looks great. The paint work looks real good. They replaced all the metal and they did a great job. The rockers and cab corners look great. The body mounts and floor look great. They bought new metal for the box and new wood. Some of the bolts holding the trim in between the wood stick up a bit but it never bothered me. It has new exhaust and some suspension parts. The frame was cleaned and painted. The seat was redone and the dash and gauges look great. The windows go up and down, the door handles work. The wipers work, horn works speedometer works, the doors open and close nice.
The hood opens good but is a bit misaligned. There are a few little chips here and there and the odd scuff in the paint but my price reflects that. It will need new tires. They work fine but are old. It has the original split rims so perhaps some new rims and tires will do the trick. Basically this truck was pretty much how it was when it came out off the factory. It does have a single rear LED brake light added on and no signal lights.
I did a full provincial inspection on it before I purchased it so you can rest at ease knowing it’s a solid truck.
I like it as it is and I’m looking for someone who will enjoy it as much as I did. I wouldn’t recommend driving it across country but I can assist with shipping on my end at buyers expense.
Feel free to call me on my land line at 4037641800 if you have any questions. If you want to fly in to see it, I’ll pick you up at the airport and drop you off afterwards. I have a few miscellaneous parts I’ll pack in the cab before it’s shipped off. Thanks for looking.
