"16,917 ORIGINAL MILES "BODY ON RESTORATION OF A SPECTACULAR CAR WITH HISTORY"
1950 Chevrolet DELUXE 2-DOOR Description
*THIS LISTING IS BY SHERMAN AUTO SALES, INC. WE ARE A 70 YEAR OLD FAMILY DEALERSHIP THAT SPECIALIZES IN VINTAGE CARS, ANTIQUES, AND AUTOMOBILE MEMORABILIA.
*WE ARE LOCATED IN FENTON, MO. 63026. MY NAME IS MARK SHERMAN, (PRES. & OWNER) AND I WILL BE PLEASED TO DISCUSS THE CAR IN DETAIL WITH ANYONE. MY DIRECT NUMBER IS 314 920-2804.
*BEFORE I BEGIN THIS DESCRIPTION I WOULD LIKE TO SAY "THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BREATH-TAKING, TRUE MILEAGE, BEAUTIFUL 1950 CHEVROLET'S YOU WILL EVER SEE".
*THIS 1950 CHEVROLET WAS PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM THE ORIGINAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FAMILY ON 12/16/2005 BY MY COMPANY WITH 16,159 ORIGINAL MILES.
*YOUNG CHEVROLET WAS THIS DEALERSHIP THAT BEGAN BUSINESS IN 1919. THEY WERE A CHEVROLET STORE FOR 80 YEARS UNTIL THE FRANCHISE WAS SOLD IN 2000.
*THE 55 YEAR HISTORY OF OWNERSHIP BY THIS FAMILY IS AS FOLLOWS: ILLINOIS TITLE WAS ISSUED ON 5-10-1950. THIS FAMILY DEALERSHIP GAVE THIS CAR TO A GREAT AUNT TO US, AS SHE TOOK CARE OF MANY OF THE OLDER FAMILY MEMBERS. THE USE WAS LIMITED, BUT THE AUNT ALWAYS HAD TRANSPORTATION WHEN NEEDED. IN 1977, OWNERSHIP AND TITLE WERE TRANSFERRED BACK TO THE 3RD GENERATION SONS OF THIS DEALERSHIP: DONALD AND STEVEN YOUNG. THE CAR STAYED IN THERE POSSESSION UNTIL 12-16-2005 WHEN THE CAR WAS SOLD TO MYSELF. DON YOUNG HAD PUT THE CAR UP FOR SALE AS HE WAS MOVING.
*THE ILLINOIS TITLE SHOWS ORIGINAL DATE OF ISSUE AS 5-10-1950 WHEN THE STATE ASSIGNED OWNERSHIP TO DONALD AND STEVEN YOUNG OF MINOAK, IL. ON 6-16-1977. (THIS IS AVERY SMALL TOWNSHIP THAT SHOWS A POPULATION OF APPROX. 2000 PEOPLE, ACCORDING TO THE LAST CENSUS ON LINE). *THE TITLE WAS THEN TRANSFERRED TO SHERMAN AUTO SALES ON 12-16-2005.
*THIS ORIGINAL CLEAR ILLINOIS TITLE WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO THE NEW PURCHASER FROM SHERMAN AUTO SALES, INC. (A COPY OF THE TITLE IS AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING. I WAS LIMITED TO 34 PICTURES ON THIS LISTING)..
*THE CAR UPON OUR PURCHASE WAS SO VERY ORIGINAL THAT IT STILL HAD THE ORIGINAL TIRES AND FACTORY ACCESSORY INSTALLED SEAT COVERS. THIS WAS ALL SAVED DURING RESTORATION AND WILL REMAIN WITH THE CAR. DURING RESTORATION THE ORIGINAL YOUNG CHEVROLET OIL STICKER FROM 5-17-1977 WITH 16,113 MILES WAS SAVED AND PLACED IN A PLASTIC SLEEVE. THERE IS ALSO A CONOCO OIL STICKER FROM 5-7-1967 WITH 16,082 MILES THAT WAS ALSO ABLE TO BE SAVED.
*THE CAR WAS PERSONALLY BROUGHT BACK FROM IL. BY MYSELF TO ST. LOUIS BY TRAILER.
*IN THE 10 1/2 YEARS MY COMPANY HAS OWNED THIS CAR, IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN A TOTAL OF 785 MILES PERSONALLY BY MYSELF..
*I DO HAVE ORIGINAL PICTURES OF THE CAR UPON OUR PURCHASE ON FILE. I ALSO HAVE RESTORATION PICTURES THAT ARE BEING LOCATED AT THIS TIME AS THEY WERE STORED AWAY.
*THIS WAS A VERY SOLID ORIGINAL CAR THAT DID NOT HAVE ANY RUST IN THE STRUCTURE OR ANY BODY PANELS OF ANY TYPE. (THERE WAS ONLY SOME MINORSURFACERUST ON THE PAINT FINISH).
*THE LAST PICTURE WILL SHOW THE CAR UPON OUR PURCHASE IN THE SHOP AREA OF MY DEALERSHIP IN 2005.
*THIS WAS A BODY ON RESTORATION THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE WORK WAS PERFORMED BY MANN'S RESTORATION IN FESTUS, MO. MIKE MANN'S RESTORATIONFACILITYIS WORLD RENOWNED. I WAS VERYFORTUNATETHAT MIKE PERSONALLY DID THE MAJORITY OF THE WORK ON THIS CAR. PLEASE SEE THERE WEBSITE AS THE WORK THEY PERFORM, IS TRULY OUTSTANDING. I KNOW MIKE PERSONALLY AND HE WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO TALK TO A SINCERE PARTY REGARDING THIS CAR.
*MY COMPANY, SHERMAN AUTO SALES, DID THE REMOVAL OF ALL THE EXTERNAL TRIM AND THE COMPLETE INTERIOR BEFORE THE CAR WAS SENT TO MANN'S RESTORATION. I ALSO HAD A SET OF USED TIRES AND WHEELS THAT REPLACED THE ORIGINALS WHILE THE RESTORATION WORK WOULD BE PERFORMED. I ALSO HAD A MECHANIC THAT WENT ON SITE TO MANN'S RESTORATION AND DID SPECIFIC MECHANICAL WORK ON THIS CAR.
*I HAVE SPENT OVER $35,000 IN RESTORATION AND PARTS. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE COST OF THE CAR, ALL THE PERSONAL LABOR THAT WAS PERFORMED AT OUR DEALERSHIP, AND ALL THE TIME AND TRANSPORTATION THAT WENT INTO THIS WONDERFUL PROJECT.
*THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF SPECIFIC INFORMATION OF THIS RESTORATION IN THE PROPER SEQUENCE OF EVENTS:
*THIS VEHICLE WAS IN RUNNING AND DRIVING ORDER, WHEN OUR PURCHASE WAS MADE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF NO BRAKES
*THERE WAS A BRAKE ISSUE WITH WHEEL CYLINDERS. WHEN THE BACK DRUMS WERE REMOVED, THEY STILL HAD THE FACTORY RETAINER CLIPS ON THE REAR DRUMS. THE BACKBRAKESHOES WERE STILL ORIGINAL.
*MY MECHANIC ONLY DID PRELIMINARY WORK ON THE CAR FOR SAFETY RELATED ITEMS AT THAT TIME, MANN'S RESTORATION BROUGHT IN THERE OWN MECHANIC AS THEPROJECTPROGRESSED.
*MANN'S RESTORATION PULLED THE MOTOR AND ALL GLASS,WITHHE EXCEPTION OF THE WINDSHIELD. (THEY WERE NOT COMFORTABLE REMOVING THE FRONT GLASS, DUE TO POSSIBLEBREAKAGE).
*THE MOTOR WAS VERY STRONG AND SOUND. THE MOTOR HAD ALL GASKETS REPLACED, CARB.,GENERATOR, FUEL PUMP, & STARTER REBUILT. RADIATOR WAS SENT OUT AND RE-CONDITIONED. GAS TANK, FUEL SENDING UNIT, FUEL LINES, BRAKE LINES, MASTER CYLINDER, BRAKE SHOES & SHOCKS REPLACED. THERE WERE MANY OTHER MISC. ITEMS REPLACED AND ADDRESSED. THE MOTOR WAS THEN HIGHLY DETAILED AND SET ASIDE.
*THE BODY WAS COMPLETED STRIPPED DOWN BY HAND TO THE BARE METAL. THE PICTURES THAT ARE BEING LOCATED FROM STORAGE WILL SHOW THE APPEARANCE OFTHECAR AT THIS TIM, WHICH TRULY RESEMBLES AN ALL ALUMINUM CAR.
*ALL BODY PANELSWERE EXTENSIVELY BLOCKED & WORKED FOR A LASER STRAIGHT BODY.
*THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS HIGHLY DETAILED. THE ORIGINAL CLOTH WIRE HARNESS WAS CAREFULLY PROTECTED AND CLEANED WITH A TOOTHBRUSH DURING THIS WORK AND STILL REMAINS IN THE CAR.
*THE BLUE PAINT COLOR WAS MATCHED TO THE FACTORY PAINT CHIP AND THE SURFACE UNDER THE FRONT HOOD ORNAMENT THAT WAS NEVER EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS. THIS DOES HAVE A VERY, VERY TINY HINT OF METALLIC IN THE FINISH, WHICH GIVES THIS COLOR MUCH MORE INTENSITY. I CHOSE TO USE THE MATCHING FACTORY GRAY AS THE 2-TONE OPTION. THIS WAS NOT OFFERED THIS WAY FROM THE FACTORY.
*THE PAINT IS A 2 STAGE CLEAR COAT FINISH.
*THE CHROME ACCESSORY BUMPER ENDS WERE ORIGINALS THAT WERE PURCHASED FOR THIS CAR, ALONG WITH THE EXTERNAL SUN VISOR. THE BUMPERS AND ENDS WERE RE-CHROMED. STAINLESS WAS POLISHED. SOME OF THE ACCESSORY TRIM WAS PURCHASED NEW THROUGH CHEVY'S OF THE 40'S.
*THE CONTINENTAL KIT WAS A DESIGN DECISION TO BE ADDED AT THE LATER PART OF THE RESTORATION. THIS WAS PAINSTAKINGLY FITTED FOR THE PROPER STANCE AND APPEARANCE. WE EVEN WENT TO THE EXTENT OF ORDERING A DUPLICATE FRONT METAL COVER FOR THE CONTINENTAL KIT TOCOMPLETELYCOVER THE BACK-SIDE OF THE TIRE. THIS WAS A GREAT DETAIL FOR APPEARANCE WHEN APPROACHING THE CAR..
*ALL THE ACCESSORY TRIM GAVE THIS CAR SUCH DISTINCTION.
*I CHOSE TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL PLAIN HOOD ORNAMENT WHICH STILL REMAINS WITH THE CAR. THE ONE USED WAS A VERY EXPENSIVE GOLD PLATED REPRODUCTION 1951 CHEVROLET GAZELLE ORNAMENT THAT FIT PERFECTLY. THIS WAS THE PERFECT TOUCH.
*I PURCHASED SEVERAL ACCESSORY ITEMS. EVEN THE LICENSE BOLTS ARE RED GLASS AND THE LICENSE FRAMES ARE ADJUSTABLE FOR THE SMALL PLATES. AS THE CAR WAS FROM ILLINOIS, EVEN THE PLATES ARE PROPER ILLINOIS 1950 PLATES.
*THE INTERIOR CAR WAS ORIGINAL, BUT THERE WAS MOTH DAMAGE DISCOVERED UNDER THE FACTORY SEAT COVERS. ALL ORIGINAL MATERIAL WAS ORDERED FROM HAMPTON COACH. AT THIS TIME ARTISTIC UPHOLSTERY WAS ON THE LOCATION AT MANN'S RESTORATION. THE INTERIOR WAS COMPLETED BY ARTISTIC UPHOLSTERY TO AN EXCEPTIONAL LEVEL OF SHOW QUALITY. THIS WAS ALL HAND SEWN. NO KITS WERE USED FOR THE SEATS OR DOOR PANELS. THE CLOTH ROPE AROUND THE DOOR JAMBS, THE CLOTH STRAP LOOPS ATTACHED TO THE PILLARS, AND THE FRONT FLOOR MAT ARE ORIGINAL TO THE CAR..
*THE PAINT ON THE DASH IS ORIGINAL. THE INTERIOR SIDE PILLAR PLATES WERE RE-PAINTED.
*ALL 5 TIRESWEREPURCHASED FROM COKER TIRES.
*EVEN THE CURB FEELERS ARE ELECTRIC.
*THE TRUNK MAT IS ORIGINAL, THE CARD BOARD INTERIOR SIDE PANELS WERE REPLACED.
*THE UNDERSIDE PAINT FINISH OF THE TRUNK WAS LEFT UN-TOUCHED AS IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY.
* AS THIS WAS A BODY ON RESTORATION, THE UNDERSIDE WAS ONLY PRESSURE WASHED AND SOME AREAS LIGHTLY SPRAYED WITH SATIN FINISH AND MINIMAL UNDERCOATING. THE REAR SPRING SHACKLE COVERS ARE STILLIN PLACE. THERE WERE NO RUST AREAS THAT WERE EVER PRESENT ON THE UNDERSIDE FRAME OR FLOOR PANELS. THERE IS STILL SOME SURFACE ACCUMULATION OF OLD GREASE AROUND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, THAT HAD ACCUMULATED OVER THE YEARS. I CHOSE TO LEAVE THIS AS IT WAS.
*I HAVE THE ORIGINAL FACTORY BOOKLETS, INCLUDING HEATER TAGS AND THE GOOD HOUSE-KEEPING BOOKLET. THERE ARE INSURANCE PAPERS FROM THE CHICAGO MOTOR CLUB THAT MATCH THE STICKER IN THEBACKWINDOW. THERE IS EVEN AN UNUSED DECK OF PLAYING CARDS FROM THE CHICAGO MOTOR CLUB THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THE SALE.
*THIS VEHICLE DID NOT COME EQUIPPED WITH A FACTORY RADIO. I CHOSE UPON RESTORATION TO HAVE A FACTORY STYLEANTENNAINSTALLED. I HAVE PURCHASED A FACTORY ORIGINAL RADIOTHATIS VERY NICE IN APPEARANCE, BUT NEEDS TO BE RESTORED. THIS IS IN A BOX AND WILL BE INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE.
*THE REAR ACCESSORY BUMPER ENDS HAVE BEEN RE-CHROMED TO SHOW QUALITY AND ARE INCLUDED IN THE SALE. WE WERE NOT ABLE USE THEM DUE TO THE CONTINENTAL KIT INSTALLATION.
*I ALSO HAVE THE FACTORY REAR SPLASH PAN THAT HAS BEEN PAINTED AND DOES GO WITH THE CAR. THIS WAS REMOVED TO INSTALL THE CONTINENTAL KIT.
*I HAVE A HIGH END CALIFORNIA CAR COVER THAT WAS TAKEN APART AND FITTED WITH EXTRA MATERIAL TOACCOMMODATETHE ACCESSORY TRIM AND THE CONTINENTAL KIT. THIS WAS ALL HAND SEWN BY ARTISTIC INTERIORS.
*I ALSO HAVE A NOS CLOCK THAT THAT WILL BE INCLUDED. THE PLASTIC FACE ON THE ORIGINAL HAS SOME CRAZING.
*I AM SORRY MY DESCRIPTION IS SOLENGTHYAND I FEEL I SHOULD STOP. I HAVE MANY MORE DETAILS I WOULD BE BE PLEASED TO DISCUSS OVER THE PHONE. I HAVE MAINTAINED ANDPROTECTEDTHIS CAR OVER THE LAST 10+ YEARS. THE FRONT END WAS ALIGNED LAST YEAR. I JUST PERSONALLY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, PRIOR TO THISLISTINGBEING WRITTEN.
*ICAN TRULY SAY I HAVE A VERY SPECIAL CAR THAT WOULD BE VERY HARD TO DUPLICATE. THIS CHEVY WHEN PRODUCED IN 1950 WAS NEVER BUILT TO THIS QUALITY.
*THIS IS AN INVESTMENT QUALITY CAR.
*THIS IS A TRUE SHOW CAR WITH A WONDERFUL AND REAL HISTORY.
*THE PICTURES ATTACHED ARE A MIX FROM DIFFERENT TIME PERIODS. THE CONDITION HAS ALWAYS REMAINED THE SAME.
*ALL PAPER WORK IS COMPLETED BY OUR COMPANY. WE ARE A LICENSED MO. DEALER. OUR COMPANY "DOES NOT CHARGE DOCUMENTARY FEES" ON OUR SALES. MOST DEALERSHIPS ON E-BAY CHARGE BETWEEN $200.00 TO $300.00 FOR COMPLETED PAPER-WORK AND MAILING. ONCE AGAIN WE DO NOT HAVE THAT CHARGE.
