Up for your consideration is this stunning one owner 1982 Collector’s Edition Corvette Stingray. The 82 was the end of "C3" Corvette production, but GM definitely sent it off with a bang.GM called the finish on the Collector’s Edition Corvette's "Silver Beige" which, I suppose, accurately describes the pewter-like hue. It’s not quite silver and not really gold, it's one of those instantly-recognizable cars that you'll see far away at a car show and smile to yourself because it's so iconic, especially with the bold colored panels that go from dark to light flanking the hood and both sides of the Stingray. Like all C3 Vettes, the carsdramatic features and sexy lines make the profiles for this car absolutely iconic with its low hanging deep chin spoiler, duck-tail end cap and Coke bottle "hourglass" body lines all add to the distinctive look that is uniquely C3 Corvette Stingray. Out of all body styles offered by Corvette over the years, the C3 was hands down the most iconic and popular for obvious reasons. I would rate the paint and body on this car as 8 to 8.5 as the paint is bright, deep and shiny although some minor flaws and paint chips are present.
The only engine available in the 1982 Corvette was the unique Cross Fire Injected 350 cubic inch V8 which to this day remains torquey, powerful, and surprisingly efficient thanks to a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission as standard equipment. The idea was simple, having two diagonally opposing fuel injected throttle bodies sitting atop a custom all aluminum intake manifold; the look is totally unique and the torque is instantaneous. Considering how many Cross Fire cars have been modified over the years, it's nice to see one that's actually numbers matching, almost completely stock under the hood. The Vette starts quickly and easily, idles well, and snaps through the gears with authority, making for an entertaining V8 drive. The undercarriage is mostly original, again with proper maintenance along the way so it still works like it should. Another unique feature are the unique "turbine alloys" that were standard on the Collectors' Edition Corvettes. These wheels are is close to flawless condition and have become very desirable and extremely hard to come by. They are flanked with raised white-letter radials and aprox 75-80% tread remaining at all four corners. Aftermarket chrome trim-rings were added to the wheels although these can easily be removed if you prefer the car without. I would rate the drive train on the Stingray as a strong 8.5 to 9 as the Vette it truly runs like a champ and pulls hard.
The Corvette's subtle but well-executed silver leather interior is tastefully done and remains largely original. The tri-colored leather covers are soft and free of rips or tears of any kind, as are the tri-colored door panels, center console and armrest. The carpets are in great shape as are the factory floor mats. The Corvette's dash hasn't been baked by the sun (although there is one small crack which is inevitable on any vintage 'Corvette). The gauges show crisp markings, the A/C system has been converted and blows ice cold, and the Collector’s Edition is loaded with options like power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, a tilt and telescopic steeringcolumn, rear defrost, and just about anything else GM could invent to include in the top-of-the-line Corvette. The "bronze" mirrored T-tops are again a unique feature for the Collector’s Edition and are also in flawless condition. The glass tops seal tightly and the weather-stripping remains soft and subtle. The open-air experience with the Corvette's glass tops removed is like none other and perfect for the approaching summer months! For entertainment, a Autovox 10 disc CD changer has been added to the factory AM/FM stereo that sounds great and has its own control box sitting on top ofthe center console for easy disc selections (see photos). I would rate the interior of this classic Corvette as an 8.5 to 9 as it is free of any rips, tears, stains, smells or otherwise.
This one owner car has a clean and clear CarFax showing zero accidents. Additionally, the Vette has just received a complete servicing including new alternator, new starter, new fuel pump and sending unit, new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. A fresh oil change with filter, a new fuel filter and both air filters have all just been replaced and both of the throttle bodies and fuel injectors have been cleaned and serviced. The cooling system was flushed and new upper and lower radiator hoses have been installed. As mentioned above, the AC has just been converted and recharged and blows ice cold air. The car currently shows 96K miles on the odometer and all of the gauges work as they should. The only modifications to the Vette are the trim rings added to the wheels, the CD changer added to the stereo and the factory tail lights have been converted so all four are brake/turn lights (the factory parts and lenses are included with the sale). Additionally an aftermarket alarm system has been added to the car which includes a key-fob remote. The only issue that I am aware of is the passenger side headlight does struggle to raise up and sometimes requires assistance. This might be an adjustment as this only happens intermittently however I wanted to be sure and mention it. Once both headlights are in their raised position, they both will retract perfectly. All of the exterior and interior lights, wipers, turn signals and high/low beams work perfectly.
This is a distinctive, fun-to-drive classic C3 Corvette that's extremely affordable, fun to drive and in exceptionally good condition overall. This is not a concourse show vehicle but a super clean and well maintained example that can be driven and enjoyed right away. The car comes with a binder full of receipts from over the years as well as a copy of the original window sticker, original ownersmanual and the two covers for the T-Tops.
