A perfect combination of classic looks and modern dependability, this 1956 Chevrolet Pickup is just as happy at a Sunday car show as it is cruising to the next town. The Emerald Green finish on this truck is a beautiful custom blend with paint codes included. Darker under the streetlights, and bright and glowing in the sun, the finish is slick, shiny, and smoothly applied over the all-steel body on this truck. There are a handful or so minor blemishes from normal use and driving over the past 3600 miles like a stone chip or light scuff, but as you can see from the 100 photos below, NOTHING that detracts from the overall presentation of the truck in any way. The body nice and clean, and panel fit and alignment is above average, and certainly well within spec for a truck in this investment range. Perfect? No, but not $75,000 either. There are NO signs of rust, chicken-wire, crushed up beer cans, or bondo panels on the truck, just solid. Chevrolet Steel. Chrome and bright trim on the truck is 98% new, and what wasn’t replaced is in very good condition too. Everything from the grill to the headlight surrounds to the side trim shows shiny and clean. Wheels are brand-new US MAG 17” chrome units, and show perfectly with brand-new tires as well. They have less than 300 miles on them, and have been balanced and aligned on the truck. Tires are size 245/45ZR20 up front, and 275/40ZR20 out back. Bed wood is beautiful, and has been treated to both color and weather-sealant so it can be used and stay nice regardless of the weather. Stainless slats show like new, as does all the hardware. Bed chains are the oldest part on the truck, and show a little age but still work perfectly and are covered for protection of the paint. Headlights, tail lights, and turn signals all work as they should. Pop open the hood and you are met with a clean, mildly built, and smooth running SBC V8 with just the right amount of shiny stuff and add-on’s to make it worth opening the hood at car shows. Reliability, ease of maintenance, and highway friendliness were the goals of the engine set-up, so don’t expect to be the king of the dragstrip! It has an estimated 250hp, which will let you spin the tire if that is your thing, but still run cool and smooth at 65mph on the freeway for a few hundred miles at a time too. Automatic transmission shifts smoothly and surely, and has “real-world” friendly gearing that makes pulling away from a stop light fun, while still making freeway speeds easily manageable too. A custom aluminum radiator keeps things SUPER cool under the hood, and this truck stays between 165 and 195 all the time, even on a sunny Florida day stuck in beach traffic. Power steering makes this a truck the whole family can drive, and power brakes with a perfectly balanced disc front/ drum rear set-up scrub off speed without any pulling, fade, or excessive modulation. Front end is a 80’s Camaro unit with new parts installed and coil springs. It helps the truck handle and track beautifully. Rear end is a GM 12-Bolt fit with medium gearing to allow for quick in-town power, but still provide nice highway-speed cruising too. Frame is clean, straight, and rust-free. It is treated to a black paint to keep it clean. Dual exhaust with performance mufflers sounds fantastic, with a nice mellow note when cruising, a good bark under throttle, and chrome dual tips peeking out the back. Inside the truck, the new mixed with old theme continues with stock looks and new components combining to create an ultra-clean interior. Carpet shows wonderfully, and covers the entire lower section of the truck over a layer of sound-proofing. A firewall liner covers from the carpet up the firewall for insulation and cleanliness. The bench seat has been recovered in a beautiful diamond pattern cloth that is cool and comfy while being durable too. It shows light signs of wear from getting in and out, but is not torn or damaged on the seating surfaces. An IdidIt chrome steering column provides tilt functionality to the custom steering wheel, and comes with a clear gear selection window and chrome turn signal and shift arms too. Factory switch gear is all in great condition, and works as it should. Dash surround looks amazing, as does the fully functional insert for speedometer. A Vintage Sound Audio system provides classic looks with modern digital tuning and available upgrades for iPod, iPhone, Pandora, and other goodies. It sounds good through the two 6x9 speakers in cases behind the seat. Also behind the seat is a relatively new fuel tank, with a function fuel gauge to match! Door panels are clean, and have nice trim pieces, armrests, door pulls, and window rollers. Ashtray is an ashtray still, and the glovebox opens to reveal a cleaner, the radio manual, and some other service notes that go with the truck. Doors open and close properly, and don’t spring open like so many trucks do. Inner doors, inner rockers and steps, and inner hinge area are all clean, neat, and solid. Overall, the truck is a very nice cruiser suitable for daily driving, Sunday car shows, and long cruises. It sort of does it all, and for not a lot of money. I have driven the truck about 400 miles total, including a trip from Fort Myers to Tampa, and it hasn’t done anything funny, strange, or left me stranded. If you are looking for a cool, clean truck you can drive and enjoy without worry, this is probably the right one for you. The vehicle is located in our Fort Myers, FL warehouse, and is just 20 minutes away from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) if you want to fly in and see it.
