Up for auction is our 1972 C10 pickup. I purchased this truck 11 years ago from the original owner, who was from Goodland, Kansas. They drove the truck 130,000 miles in the first 10 years of ownership, then retired the truck and parked it in their shed on their ranch. When I purchased the truck, I also stored the truck indoors. It has been in storage for 35 years.
It was special ordered at Herl Chevrolet with the following factory options; Four season A/C, 350 V-8, Hydro-Matic transmission, power steering, power disc brakes, Custom Deluxe package, tinted glass, full wheel covers, auxiliary spring, chrome front bumper, AM radio, amm-oil-temp gauges, parchment trim, white / medium olive paint and 115” (short bed) wheel base.
Last year I decided to get this cool C10 back on the road. In order to make this truck dependable I did a very comprehensive restoration.
Starting with the mechanical, almost everything was rebuilt or replaced; Fully rebuilt the engine with .030 flat-top pistons, all new bearings, performance cam and timing chain, new complete World Products performance cylinder heads, Edelbrock performance intake manifold and carburetor, new water pump, new fuel pump, rebuilt starter and alternator, all new gaskets, wires and hoses. The engine runs very strong and makes over 400hp. Fully rebuilt TH 350 transmission with a very slight new stall converter and shift kit. The transmission shifts crisp but not hard or rough. Its very solid and street able. All new drive line U-joints and carrier bearing. The rear differential is a 12 bolt that’s fully serviced and resealed. The engine, transmission and rear end are all highly detailed and painted nicely. The engine compartment has all new hoses, battery and cables, heater control valve, wiring harness from Lectric Limited, belts and the radiator was boiled and re-cored.
The brake system is completely new as well; New master cylinder, rebuilt booster, new lines and hoses, new front calipers with new rotors, bearings and seals. The rear is all new wheel cylinders, shoes and hardware. The brakes work great! The suspension is gone through as well; New inner and outer tie rods, fully rebuilt power steering gear box, all new shocks, new lowering springs all around and rear lowering blocks. Total its lowered 2.5 in the front and 3.5 in the rear. This is a nice ride height for comfort and ground clearance. Its very street-able and does not bounce like a low rider. I built this truck as a driver, and I will say it does that very well.
The exhaust system is new with mandrel bent, aluminized 2.5” pipe and Flowmaster mufflers. All new hangers and seals. Sounds awesome and it just right for the street. Not too loud! The gas tank was removed, boiled out and re-installed with a new sending unit and all new hoses. New wheels and tires. 15x8 in the front and 15x10 in the rear. They fit perfect and don’t rub at all.
The exterior was carefully restored….. All new chrome bumpers, new grill and grill shell with emblem, all new lights and lenses, new windshield with gasket and the stainless was re-polished while it was out. But the paint is all original patina and looks awesome. One cab corner is a little rusty along with a few small spots in the rear of the bed. Otherwise, this truck is very solid and nice.
The interior is mostly new and is super cool; Fully rebuilt seat frame with new foam and a new correct style seat cover. New loop carpet with padding and rubber floor mats, original door panels just cleaned and re-dyed the original color. New dash pad and the top of the dash was repainted the original color while the windshield was out for replacement, the rest of the dash is still the original Medium Olive paint. New glove box liner with the original owner manual inside. The Gauges were totally restored, and a new bezel installed. The steering column was cleaned inside and out, lubricated and a new correct style steering wheel installed.
Mostly everything in this truck works perfect including; gauges, lights, courtesy lights, turn signals, high beams, wipers, locks, heater, door windows glide up and down with ease. The items that do not work; horn, original radio, A/C (needs compressor and hoses) and the fuel gauge works but is not accurate.
If you are looking for a very dependable and fun truck to drive, then this is the truck for you. It’s basically fully restored with an awesome patina look. All of the patina is real and not made up. I have driven the truck several thousand miles since the restoration and its ready for your enjoyment. I would not hesitate to take this truck on a long road trip…….its totally dialed in.
