1947 Chevrolet Suburban Description

We removed this suburban from an old junk yard in the Colorado mountains where it had been sitting since 1967 as you can see by back license plate. We are located in North Alabama and have been in the street Rod and race car building business for over 60 years. This is the first time I have ever seen a Suburban of this year grouping with clam shell rear doors instead of barn doors. Suburbans of these year models are extremely hard to come by period but to find one in such good condition with such minimal rust is almost unheard of. This is one reason we travel to these aired climates is to find good original steel. It is so far better then what you find on east coast or in any humid environment or area where salt is used in the winter months . We removed this suburban from an old junk yard in the Colorado mountains where it had been sitting since 1967 as you can see by back license plate. We are located in North Alabama and have been in the street Rod and race car building business for over 60 years. This is the first time I have ever seen a Suburban of this year grouping with clam shell rear door instead of barn doors. Suburbans of these year models are extremely hard to come by period but to find one in such good condition with such minimal rust is almost unheard of. This is one reason we travel to these aired climates is to find good original steel. Another amazing positive is that the back glass in the clam shell is in very good condition. I have removed it from the dried rubber and have it safely wrapped in moving blankets. It is not cracked nor separated like you see in the other glass. All the hardware for the tailgate is there and it closes as well as the hood and doors which is rather amazing for sitting over 50 years. The doors are solid which again usual the bottoms are generally gone. This is the reason they remake this entire truck out of new steel today good ones so including the mass produced pick-up are just hard to find without needing a great deal of patch panels. What is missing or rust that needs repair: The suburban does not have any running boards that's the way I got it. The same running boards are used on the pick-up so at one time must have been sold off. There is a small amount of rust through on the left rear fender where the running board attaches. Would not even require a patch panel just a small patch. The left front fender appeared to have hit a post. We have hammered out most of the damage now it is to the point where the fender needs to be removed and smaller dents cleaned up. The last owner must have wanted the heat to be far better then what the original heater provided...we are talking about the Colorado mountains. He added 2 extra heaters one in the passenger firewall/footwell area that leaked and some rust repair will need to be done on that area of the floor. Again not that big of a deal the other heater is hard for me to even understand he ran a hose from the exhaust manifold through the firewall to a small squirrel cage fan that mounted on top of the dash and blew directly on the driver. The hole through the firewall will need to be welded back. As you can see there is no suspension nor driveline. The frame is still there and again is very solid. At some point someone in the junkyard torch cut out the speedometer. Why I have no idea would have been easier to remove it correctly. You can get new dashes and find old ones if you want to stay to a two Guage look or open it up and customize for a standard 5 Guage kit. Included pics of this.I will add more pics of the places I was talking about as well as where I have removed undercoating so you can see as much as possible this wonderful suburban. As you can probably tell this one is hard for me to get rid of but we have way to many personal projects and to many client projects that must get done. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to answer your questions and take more photos if needed.Dolly vehicle is now on is not part of the sale.WE HAVE ALL EQUIPMENT NEEDED TO LOAD ON OPEN TRAILER AND CAN BUILD SOME STEEL STANDS THAT BOLT TO CHASSIS FOR SHIPPING. AGAIN, WE ARE WILLING TO DELIVER FOR A REASONABLE AMOUNT BASED ON WHERE YOU ARE LOCATED. THANKS FOR LOOKING.
