Best of luck and happy Memorial Day!
Up for sale is an absolutely beautiful 1974 Corvette. Being a major auto and aviation enthusiast, more specifically a GM enthusiast, I think it is easy to say the 1974 model year Corvette is the most under-rated year of the entire line up. It is my favorite year of the C3 style and I will explain some of the many reasons why. It is important to note that 1974 is a unique, one year only car. With multiple additions and features only available in 1974. Vette people know that Zora Arkus-Duntov was the chief designer, director and engineer of the Corvette. Zora had a passion for small block v8s, light weight, luxury and racing. The 1974 Corvette was the last year he directed/designed before his retirement in 1975. He added a few personal traits to the car, before smog and safety requirements took over in 1975. This was the last year of true dual exhuast, without catalitic converters or other power stealing smog accessories. The 74 also had upgraded materials in the entire interior and had more comfortable seats for longer drives. The lack of a heavy, steel front and rear bumper saved weight and gave the car a more streamline look, as well as improved its ability for top speed and wind tunnel testing. Do not confuse the rear of a 1974 for the late 70's and early 80's cars. The 1974 did not have the black rubber bar, for 5mph impacts. In fact, the rear/front bumpers were designed because of a rule change in WEC and IMSA racing series. The 74 was designed for high speed, endurance racing at Daytona and Le Mans. The front and rear design of the 1974 Corvette earned it's nickname, the "Mulsanne Corvette," named after the 3.5 mile straightaway at Le Mans, where the 74 Corvette reached a staggering 215 MPH! Like any collectible classic car, the 1974 has a rich racing resume. It successfully competed in 24 hours of Le Mans, Daytona 24, 12 Hour of Sebring and won pole position at Daytona, Talladega, Road America. A 1974 Corvette also won the championship in the 1975 season Trans Am series. The most famous of the Corvette racing cars was the 1974 "Spirit of Sebring." This was a white Corvette, piloted by legendary Corvette driver John Greenwood that starred in endurance racing and made Zora proud. Road & Track called the 74 "the best Corvette they had ever driven." Being a one year only design I could continue on why the 1974 is my favorite year, but overall it has rich history and unique features that add to the driving experienceand collectibility.
This particular1974 has undergone a ground up restoration and it is absolutely top notch. It started the restoration as a clean, never wrecked, running driving white car. If I were not in betweenjobs, I would not be selling this baby. Included will be a book of receipts that showin the past 3 years alone more than $18,000 has been invested in the restoration. Starting on the exterior, the car was originallya "Classic White". Being a California car, it had virtually no rot, or crash history. The entire car was professionally sanded and painted. The process started in late 2016 and it was stripped with doors, bumpers, t-tops and hood removed and professionally sanded and primed with very little use of any body filler. The entire car and jams were painted, cleared and put back together. The panel gaps are second to none and the paint work is stunning. The paint wasn't completed until early 2017 and it looks brand new. All accessories were replaced at the same time, including badges, lights, chrome door handles and more. After paint the car was sent to an upholsteryshop where it receivednew rubber trim, door seals, freshly covered new leather seats, new door panels, new center console, new dash pad, new carpet and new T-Top insert covers. The shop also installed a classic chevy stereo that looks period correct but has plug ins for your phone and USB. The entire interior smells, looks and feels brand new, because it is. The engine and transmission is rebuilt and strong. Apart from a slightly upgraded 4 barrel carburetor and completely new 2.5" exhuast from header back, with Flowmaster mufflers, it is mostly stock, the way it should be. The car starts on the turn of the key, without smoke, leaks or any problems. It is easy and comfortable to drive, but if you give it too much throttle, it will easilyspin both those rear tires! Speaking of tires, they are brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/As on brand new, wide Corvette Rally wheels. This car corners incredible well and has so much grip it feels like a go-cart. I know I am forgetting things that have been done, but you can sort through the recieipts and see this was no expense spared restoration.
Overall, this Corvette is on of a kind. It is perfect to show, collect, drive and enjoy. It has a clean title, it is being sold with no warranty expressed or implied, with mileage exempt due to age. All inspections to be done before end of auction. I also love that the NASA astronauts of the Apollo missions were given white C3 Corvettes! You can't help like feeling like one of those American heros or like one of the old school racers behind the wheel. I encourage you to come see the car, I know you will be very impressed. It truely looks like a Stingray and gets compliments and thumbs up everywhere you go. It sounds incredible, and what I like, it is very comfortable and easy to drive.
She is being sold at NO RESERVE.
Good luck, thanks for looking.
