1962 Chevrolet Corvair -- Description

1962 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertible Red / Red / White Top Turbocharged 150hp YR-code Flat 6 & 4spd VIDEO WITH LISTING VIN: 20967W317843 2: 1962 09: 900 (Monza) 67: Convertible W: Willow Run Assembly Plant 317843: Serial Number Paint: Roman Red (923-5) Trim: Red (781) Engine #: T0730YR YR: 150hp, 145ci 6-Cylinder, Turbocharged with 4spd Manual, 1960-1962 Exterior: - Please see the video along with the listing, as every blemish on the car is shown close-up and in direct sunlight. - While the underbody is actually in decent shape, there are a handful of spots of... body rust on the car. Again, please defer to the video, but body rust is most notable on the lower rear panel below the rear bumper, where rust is through. There are also bubbles along the edge of the driver’s rear wheel well. The car is structurally sound and actually runs and drives really well, but isn’t in great cosmetic order. Makes for a good “driver”. - Glass and lights are clear and crack-free. - White top is in OK shape; it shows age but isn’t torn. Clear rear plastic piece is missing. - Wheels are in nice shape, with no curb rash or damage. Tires are in nice shape as well, and the DOT number indicates they were manufactured in 2011. Interior: - Interior is quite good. Dash presents very well, with no cracks or damage. Seats are in nice shape. There is a tear on the driver’s outer bolster, seen up-close in the photos. There is also some discoloring on the upper outer corners of the front seats. Rears are excellent. - Red carpeting is in great shape. - Gauges are all functional, though the blower and radio are not. Odometer reads 52,219 miles, true mileage is unknown. - Roll up windows track nicely. - Doors open and close without any fuss. Under the Hood / Underbody: - Engine is a YR-code 145ci Flat-6, correct to a ‘62 Turbo Spyder. Transmission is a 4spd manual, which is correct for the car. - The car runs and drives extremely well. Fires right up, idles quiet, cool, and steady, and accelerates without any hesitation. The clutch feels great, shifts are nice and smooth. The driving experience is very much the strongest point of the car. It’s nicely sorted from a mechanical standpoint. - The car will come with the original owner’s guide as well as a spare copy, a handful of shop manuals, registration cards dating all the way back to 1971 showing this car’s long history in North Dakota, and a number of service receipts. The car saw a thorough mechanical going-through in 2004, which included a complete gasket set, clutch/throwout bearing/pilot bushing, U joints, recondition fuel tank, replace fuel sending unit and pump, replace brake and fuel lines, shocks, shifter bushings, rebuilt starter, rebuilt turbo, rebuilt turbo carb, turbo fuel return kit, among many other small items. - Please take a look through the underbody photos, as it’s documented in detail. Underbody looks OK; and it does look like a previous owner rattle-canned it. There is rust at the forwardmost point of the driver’s side floor. Overall, this is a mechanically-sorted, ready-to-enjoy turbo Corvair convertible. This would make for an awesome summer cruiser that can be driven and enjoyed without stressing about cosmetic neatness.
