1966 Chevrolet Impala Impala Super Sport Description

I purchased this in 1999 expecting to have it running an driving in a few days. Like most of my projects that did not work out so well. I knew the car needed top, interior, floor pans and paint, but did not know the engine was frozen. It had been sitting up a couple years and a blown head gasket had leaked coolent into one of the cylinders and rust had locked it up. After a complete engine rebuild, discovered the powerglide was no good. Found and installed a 700R4 as an update. The car ran great but had no power. Finally found that I had to have low rear end to make the trans work right. A 3.73 rear made it into a great driver for several years. Finally decided to make it into a 4 speed car and the result is what you see now.The car has never had any intent to be anything other that a cruiser and has never been in a car show. It is just a solid southern car that has been in Georgia all of its life. I added the things that I liked to the car. It has some non stock items such as the 4-Speed, Caprice tail lights, CD player, chrome trim on petals, retractors and end clips for seat belts, Caprice chrome up the windshield posts. There are some small injuries to the paint and some paint bubbles at lower left on trunk lid. I took closeups of these that are shown in the pics. Car drives out just like it should. It drives true and no pulling on braking. Best cranking carburated car that I have ever owned. Engine is smooth and uses no oil. Car has no leaks. The muncie wide ratio shifts great with the hurst shifter and the car pulls strong via a 3.42 rear. The gauge cluster is an add on and only the oil and vaccum gauges are functional. The car has had the engine rebuilt professionally, the brakes completely redone, front end completely rebuilt, new shocks, exhaust system, new tires last year and many other components rebuilt or replaced. Purchased the car with something over 94000 miles and in my nearly 20 years of ownership have only got it up to103000. Doing the math, it seems like well under a 1000 miles per year. Do note that even though the parts on the car have been used gently, most of the main components are over 15 years old. The convertible top is electric and functions well. The rear window is glass rather than plastic. The windows are on track and roll up an down easily. Things that would need attention to make it a show car. Under the hood would have to be detailed, convertible needs new side gaskets, and bad spots in paint would need repair. The drivers seat bun is also showing sign of breaking down. Questions, concerns or interest call Henry 478-494- 2857. Triming down my collection these great old cars, already sold a nice old Belair 4door sedan and a Caprice wagon. I am still holdng a big block 4-speed Caprice and a big block powerglide Belair 2 door sedan.
