1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS Tribute Description

It doesn't take a genius to figure out why cars like this 1968 Camaro convertible remain popular year after year, and why we have trouble keeping them in stock. They combine timeless good looks with performance that is still impressive today, and when there's a top that goes down, well, the appeal is readily apparent.Unlike most Camaros of this vintage, this red ragtop remains faithful to the original vision of Chevy's designers. Starting with solid southern base stock always helps, but the workmanship needs to be top-notch, too, and this car totally nails it. Excellent fit and finish are hallmarks of this particular F-body, and you can see how well it lines up by sighting down the sides and checking that crease that runs between the fender wells. It looks like it was drawn with a T-square, doesn't it? The paint is two-stage urethane, recreating a brilliant Matador Red finish (code R Matador Red is this car's original color), and the white Z/28 stripes down the center have been buried in the clear for a seamless finish. There's a steel cowl induction hood to add a little bit of attitude, as well as a chin spoiler up front, and the ducktail spoiler gives the car an aggressive look without seeming cartoonish (yeah, I'm looking at you, Honda tuners). All the brightwork seems to have been restored as well. This car is every bit as nice as it looks in photos. The red vinyl interior is an excellent choice in a bright red car, although you probably should be a fan of being the center of attention if you pick a red-on-red car. Stitched in the correct patterns and using reproduction material, it looks completely OEM, with nice detailing on the seats and proper emblems on the doors. Matching red carpets and are the only logical choice, and it's all in very good condition overall. The original gauges are all functional, and have been augmented with a quartet of modern gauges ahead of the center console. There's a newer digital AM/FM/cassette stereo that powers a set of speakers in the side panels in back and a good-looking Grant steering wheel whose red and black wrap matches the interior perfectly. A Hurst shifter with white cue ball now controls the 4-speed underneath, and that's part of what makes this Camaro so appealing. Keeping everything dry is a white vinyl convertible top and the trunk is as clean as they come. You'll also be pleased to learn that this Camaro is still carrying its numbers-matching 327 cubic inch V8. Rebuilt less than 200 miles ago, it has been augmented with a mild cam, HEI ignition system, and a big 4-barrel carburetor and matching intake. Bathed in Chevy Orange, it has a fairly OEM look, although the handsome Edelbrock valve covers really look good. Power steering and power brakes make this car an easy driver, and there's a big aluminum radiator with electric fans up front that keep it cool effortlessly. Underneath, the chassis is tidy, offering a set of subframe connectors to reinforce the tub, long-tube headers feeding a pair of Flowmaster mufflers, and a set of traction bars attached to the rear springs to really help it launch. The rebuilt 12-bolt rear is built for combat and with 3.42 gears inside, it offers a nice compromise between punchy acceleration and easy cruising. Factory-style Rally wheels wear new 235/60/15 BFGoodrich radials for the right stance.Nicely built and impossible to ignore, this clean Camaro includes a bunch of receipts for all the recent work, this is a fantastic value on a car with a strong pedigree that's ready to drive.
