Looking like it jumped off a full color display ad of its era, this 1962 Chevrolet Corvette is about as fine a first-generation representative of Chevy's true American sports car as you're likely to come across. Good care and some refreshening over the years has left it looking fit enough to be a worthy entrant on the local car show circuit, and it comes complete with build receipts and restoration photos to document the path to its current stellar condition.... Because this '62 closed out its generation, it had the benefit of a host of styling refinements applied over the years and is a sort of aesthetic bridge between the earliest Corvette models and the more futuristic designs that were to follow. The front end, with its compact grille sitting in between a pair of smaller grilles and the twin dual headlights looming above, falls into the former camp, while the ducktail rear - a styling cue added just a year earlier - features a taillight design and overall shape so magnetic that Chevy would hold on to it for quite some time to come. The Roman red color on display here looks killer - it's a nice deep shade that's a perfect match for the 'Vette's vintage form. The collection of clean chrome it carries on top (you have to see that front end from up close!) makes this vintage Corvette a showstopper. You'll have two options for shelter while driving in unforgiving weather - a new-looking white vinyl convertible top and a freshly repainted matching red accessory hard top. Even as far back as the early '60s, Chevy was arming their prized nameplate with inspired interiors, and the one on display here is in such clean condition that it displays that design wizardry to maximum advantage. The rally-inspired, black vinyl buckets are recessed smoothly into the contour of their surroundings and look very fresh as they sit over an expanse of new-looking carpeting. Just beyond the stock steering wheel sits a dash area that nearly glows with freshness and a design that had to have filled competing designers with a sense of futility upon first glance, with its aeronautically inspired look and a full complement of fresh-looking gauges in the instrument cluster. While droptops with factory air conditioning on board would be a rare commodity for years to come, this '62 benefits from an aftermarket A/C upgrade that's running in top form and is a very welcome feature. The trunk area is nice and tidy, with freshly painted walls and a floor bearing a spot-free rubber liner. The draw of this '62 goes well beyond its visual appeal - it features a reassuringly strong driving condition hard to come by in any car of its era. There's a 327 V8 under the hood that's in great form, idling smoothly and running very quietly as it sits with a chrome air cleaner and its original valve covers inside a very well-detailed engine compartment. There is a number of new-looking components on display inside and fresh-looking hoses and wires everywhere you look. The small block pairs with a Borg Warner T10 4-speed manual transmission that shifts very smoothly to make up a "hands on" drivetrain well-matched to the Corvette's performance-oriented heritage. A 3.55 rear end was added to the mix a few years back to provide a nice balance of off the line acceleration and engine-friendly RPMs at highway speeds as this iconic Chevrolet sports car hits the road on its 15" stock wheels outfitted with Sigma Shadow tires. While the early '60s produced its share of memorable cars, few also offer the confidence-inspiring road-readiness of this 1962 Chevrolet Corvette. Call today!
