1945 Chevrolet 1/2 Shortbox Package
1945 Chevrolet Other Pickups Description
This is a Canadian made 1341 Series pickup which is the equivalent to the US produced 3100. In 1945 there were only 6,202 in total of these high priority civilian units produced in the USA. I don't know the exact Canadian production numbers, but they usually run at about 1/10 of the United States numbers. Needless to say this is an extremely rare pickup. In 1945 this truck was issued for high priority use to the California Standard Oil Company and the original logos, "CALIFORNIA STANDARD COMPANY CALGARY, ALTA", can still be faintly seen on the doors. This truck has reportedly not been on the road since 1959, but because I wasn't around that long ago I obviously have no way of confirming this claim. Regardless, this truck is in incredible shape for a truck of this age.
I purchased this truck 2 years ago after having pestered the previous owner for several years until he sold it to me. Unfortunately the only thing I have gotten around doing to it is buying parts for it. As you can see from my list of parts I though highly enough of this truck to purchase an impressive list of parts to do this project. Here is a brief list of some of the main parts included.
- Art Morrision Enterprise IFS set-up with disc brakes.
- Art Morrison Enterprise rear 4-Bar suspension
- Brand new radiator
- Rebuilt 1959 235 ci inline 6 engine
- Glide Engineering seat constructed specifically for this truck. (Still in the boxes it came in)
- Brand new generator
- Brand new starter
- Brand new cross members & bed strips for this truck
- Composite wood grain boards for bedwood
- Various other parts, screw kits etc. that had been ordered through 'Chevs of the 40's"
- There is a original rear bumper with brand new brackets included as well.
- Brand new Chevy inline 6 to T5 transmission adapter
It would be very difficult finding one of these 1945 Chevrolet 1/2 tons in an unaltered original state as good, or much better than this truck. For a truck of this age there is a few expected imperfections, but this truck is surprisingly straight. The sheet metal incredibly solid and there is minimal rust (mostly only surface rust). The bed's wood boards were shot, so they were taken out. I purchased brand new bed cross members and bed strips for this truck. My plan was to use wood grain style composite boards (included in the package) to put a new floor in the truck bed. There is only the original seat bottom portion, so I purchased a seat constructed for this truck from Glide Engineering as a replacement. It is brand new still in the boxes it was shipped in.
The Art Morrison Enterprise front and rear suspension kits were ordered specifically for this trucks frame & track widths.
The original engine was replaced with a 1959 235 ci inline 6 engine. It has xxxx848 heads. The previous owner had this engine completely rebuilt. This engine has a 12 volt ring gear (168 teeth) and I only had a 6 volt starter (139 teeth), so I never have started this engine. I cannot guarantee this engine because I haven't ran it myself. I have included a copy of the work order that was done to this engine. This engine is full of brand new clean oil and has been stored inside since I have had it. The original 3 speed manual transmission backs up this engine. The previous owner had done some minor things like removing some of the interior trim, but everything is still here to make a complete truck.
This is an excellent truck project that just needs completing. Because I am having to clean out my storage space I have decided to put this truck up for sale. I would suggest anyone interested in this classic to feel free to ask me any questions. The purchaser's satisfaction is very important to me. I can help co-ordinate transportation if needed.
