1966 Chevelle SS 396 4-speed Real 138 w/1969 427 Tri-Power Engine SS396 Corvette
1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 Description
1966 SS396 Chevrolet Chevelle known as "The Wizard"!June of 1966 Lamar Turner went to Dewey Chevrolet in Omaha, NE and purchased a new Ermin White with Medium Red bucket seat interior SS396 325hp, 4-speed Chevelle. Like most big block Chevelle owners he drove it hard and blew up the 396 around 1969, so he went back to the dealer and bought a 427 short block and Corvette tri-power set up. He installed the original 396 heads on the 427 with 3 deuces and continued tearing up the streets. That wild power plant needed a mind-blowing appearance and interior. So a crazy 70's metal flake paint job was sprayed, complimented by a psychedelic glitter interior. I think he hit the nail right on the head for the era! At some point in the early 2000's it was sold to the second owner. He had the engine freshened by an Omaha drag racing legend, Yukio Ando. During the overhaula new set of Holley carbs were installed, along with MSD ignition, Hooker headers and Center-force clutch. The original 12-bolt rear end was fitted with a set of 3.73 gears and the Muncie 4-speed was freshened. After a couple years of cruising and car shows, the car was parked for approximatly 15 years.Inthe last 6 months we got it running and moving again. Its not exactly road worthy but can be lot driven and on a trailer. The car is a time capsule of the 70's street freakenvironment. It alsohas been a home for that pesky midwest disease known as rust. It is a going to need a fair amount of panel replacement if someone decides to do a restoration. The trunk flooris by far the worst but the quarters, doors, fenders and floor pans will need attention also. The frame and floor braces are verysolid incomparison. Theoriginal owners manual with the Protecto-Plate is included(see photo I reversed it so it iseasily read). Please do not assume anything!
