All Original and Complete
Only 64965 miles
Good Running Condition
This 1934 Chevy Master is a complete and fully functional piece of automotive history. We purchased it in 1959, with around 62000 miles on it. It now has 64965 miles on it. The car has been garaged every night we have owned it and not been driven in winter.
This car starts reliably and runs well. It does not burn oil or have any significant fluid leaks. It rides well and feels solid, with no rattles or shaking. The doors close with a satisfying click. The windows, doors, and lights are all intact and all work. The original roof insert is still in place and in good condition, with no leaks. The tires were on it when we bought the car. They have plenty of tread, with no cracks or dry rot.
We don’t know its history prior to 1959, but given the excellent condition of the car when we bought it, we presume it never needed or had any major repair work. During the time we have owned this car, no major overhaul or mechanical restoration work has been done on it. We did have the valves ground and the carburetor professionally rebuilt 10 or 20 years ago. We also repainted the car in 1976 and had both bumpers rechromed 30 or 40 years ago.
The interior is the original mohair, although moths got inside 20 years ago and damaged much of the upholstery. There is carpet in the back seat area, but it is very deteriorated. The steering wheel is not cracked. The speedometer and odometer work well. The ammeter, oil, and gas gauges all work, although they may not be reliable. The water temp gauge is not working. The vacuum-operated windshield wiper no longer works. The seals around the windows are not in good shape, so we keep the car out of the rain. The cowl ventilator works.
Factory/Dealer installed ‘Accessories’ (what we now call options):
*Front and rear chrome bumpers
*Ornamental Radiator Filler Cap
*Drum Type Metal Tire Cover (rear-mounted spare tire carrier, with locking hub cap cover) includes key
Plus, all the standard features of the 1934 Master Sedan:
*4-door
*Foot operated floor starter switch
*206 cubic inch straight-6 engine, rated at 80 hp
*3 speed manual transmission
*Rear leaf-spring suspension, complete with original canvas covers
*Cowl Ventilator
*Mohair interior
*Pull-down shade in rear window
*Knee-action front suspension (new for 1934)
TITLE
This ‘34 Chevy has a clear title and current registration. The VIN is 21DA05 23696, which matches the code stamped on the ID plate under the floor mat just inside the right front door.
Multiple sources show this probably means:
21 Assembled in Janesville, WI
DA 1934 model
05 Built in May 1934
23696 Car Number (The 23696th car built on the Janesville assembly line
for the 1934 model year)
I would be glad to answer any questions.
