1978 Camper Special Automatic
1978 Chevrolet K-20 Camper Special Description
When you get your hands on a Camper Special, you know you have one stout truck. It's heavy duty from end to end and set up from the factory with some serious pulling power. People who own them can recognize them immediately on the road, so be ready for some friendly waves as you drive it. Especially since this one is a super nice example. When you approach this truck, its easy to see that it is super straight and super clean. The factory correct Santa Fe Tan two-tone paint is divided by chrome and black trim and shines bright. It looks like it belongs cruising across a southwest desert. There is a Camper Special badge just behind the door handle and a double chrome roll bar with plenty of driving lights mounted so you can see way on down that dark road or light up the woods like its daytime. Up front the classic good looks of this Chevy truck is complimented by a chrome grill and grill guard mounted to the chrome bumper to protect it. Tow hooks are mounted underneath just in case assistance is needed or being offered. Out back, a nice chrome bumper with a trailer receiver underlines the tailgate with a brushed aluminum center panel and Chevrolet in script. Open the door and you will find a Pumkin colored interior that goes perfectly with the Santa Fe tan. A brushed panel has a door pull mounted to it and dresses out the door handle and window crank. Climb on up and settle in to the very comfortable full width bench seat. A two spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column along with the shifter for the automatic transmission and sits in front of a stock dashboard. The speedo and tach are clearly visible in front of the driver with the engine gauges off to the left. An auxiliary vacuum gauge is mounted to the windshield pillar and a trailer brake controller along with an auxiliary oil pressure gauge and LPG switches are mounted below the dash. R 134 A/C might come in handy on those hot summer days, there is a Pioneer AM/FM/CD player for your listening pleasure. The manual shift lever for the 4WD transfer case is mounted in the floor. Open the hood and you will find a healthy 454 cubic inch big block engine that is ready to get some heavy-duty work done. There is a Summit chrome air topper sitting on an Edelbrock carburetor and polished intake manifold. Chrome valve covers add their splash of flash and even the power brake booster and master cylinder are polished up. Long tube headers get the exhaust out and headed downstream to Flowmaster muffler giving this truck a healthy big block rumble. Power flows back through the 3-speed automatic trans and the 4WD transfer case. The Trailer Special package means that there are heavy duty springs and shocks both front and rear along with sway bar to keep body roll to a minimum. Dual fuel tanks provide extended range so you may end up making more bathroom stops than fuel stops on a long trip. The truck sits on 285/75R16 Mastercraft white letter tires all around mounted on brushed aluminum alloy wheels. Even if you don't use it for a camper or heavy duty pulling, its nice to know that you have a seriously capable truck, and you could if you wanted to. Besides, it's a seriously good looking truck too! So, come on down and check it out.
