1961 Classic Chevrolet Corvette
A one-owner car, this is a treat even to look at. The owner of this car passed away in June, 2018. This was his first car. He bought it new in 1961. He loved it so much that he never had the heart to sell it. He bought, drove and sold other cars during his 80 years of life. There was always room in his garage for this car.
For the record, I was this owners’ best friend and I am the executor of his estate.
The car was completely restored less than 10 years ago by a local shop. Sorry, there is no paper work. There are some problems, noted below. But the body on this is almost perfect. The interior matches. I think the mileage is true on this car, but I cannot guarantee it. The car was purchased in Texas. We still have the original Texas title. The owner moved to Bakersfield, California. It’s a hot dry claimant. No rust or snow caused problems. The owner ended up buying another car in the 1960s. This car went into the garage. It has been driven very little since that time. I first met the car owner in the early 1970s. He was not driving this car at that time.
The car is a convertible, including a hard top and a fairly new cloth top. The top did not come off for the appraiser. But I have seen the top since it’s been replaced. Nice condition. It has power rack and pion steering, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes. The locks are Manuel, vinyl upholstery, and stock wheels.
When my friend died, I had a mechanic friend look the engine over. He rebuilt the carburetor, and corrected some wiring problems. This car had not been driven for about a year. He made it run so I could drive it home. He noted some problems. The car does not track when driven straight. It needs steering inop, steering couplers and a pinon seal. There are some problems with the headlight connections. The fan is the wrong size for the shroud. I don't' know who worked on this car, but some things were not done properly. There is a small bubble in the paint on the hood, right in front of the windshield. It may have been subjected to heat or something caustic.
The car appraised for $65,000. I can send a copy of the appraisal easily and quickly.
Note: I am the trustee of the car. I do not own it, nor will I be rewarded or the sale. It’s part of my job for my best friend. That is to say, we will consider a best offer. Condition of the sale is delivered in Bakersfield, California. We will assist with shipping this car anywhere in the world. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.
