This 1959 Chevrolet Impala has been in a private car collection for 14 years. It is equipped with the factory correct Ram Jet 283/290 HP, solid lifter, Fuel Injected small block engine. The well respected Automobile Clearing House publication has determined that there were 26 units of 1959 Chevrolet passenger cars factory equipped with the optional Fuel injection. Of these 26 passenger cars,19 were determined to be the Impala trim line, 5 Biscayne trim lines and 2 Bel Air trim lines. In September of 2006 this car was seen by Sam Egan of Automobile Clearing house and he concluded the engine boss block numbers are correct for the 1959 Chevrolet fuel injected engine. To complement the Ran Jet engine it is also equipped with the Borg Warner, floor shifted T-10 4 speed transmission and a Posi-Traction rear end.
This car has under gone a meticulous earlier period correct rotisserie body off restoration. From the tuxedo black exterior to the uniquely two toned original style patterned red interior. The car is equipped with an AM radio, heater, in dash clock(stopped working-needs the points cleaned). It also has a 60's period column mounted Sun Super tack. The tack is not stock was mounted by me something out of my era. The tack can be easily removed if desired.
Auto Power Machine, Oceanside, California, did the complete engine rebuild to exact factory specifications. The Rochester fuel injection system has been serviced, tested and calibrated by Chuck Smith of Valley Center, California.
This Impala has been featured in 3 publications: "Muscle Car Enthusiast", June 2003, "Muscle Car Review", June 2008; and a 5-page pictorial in Robert Genet's "2008" collector car book "The Fuelies". In Genet's book the Impala is featured in the chapter on fuel injected sedans. Since its publication, Genet's book has become one of best information and research sources on past Rochester fuel injection cars and systems.
If you are looking for a very rare car for your collection this is a good choice. If you drive your cars which we do it is a good driver. I have an extra set of special radial tires I put on for longer trips. The car has won its class or special awards consistently at many of the car shows we have attended.
Here is a recent video of the car recorded when we were at the Cruising Grand Avenue Car Show, Escondido, Ca, I believe it was in 2016. I don't know the identity of the person who did the video I happened to see it on You Tube last year. It represents the car very well.
