Classic Vintage Super Sport Big Block Red Four Speed
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 Description
This car runs strong, looks good, and drives great. Its clean body lines run the length of the car, catch the light, and draw your eye. This is a great looking, ground pounding, big block muscle car with a 4-speed. What's not to like? Considered by many to be the best-looking muscle car of all time, the 1970 Chevelle has smooth, graceful curves that flow down the length of the car. The look will never go out of style. Before a drop of that beautiful Red paint hit this car, hours of work went into getting the panels to fit just right and the surfaces trued and prepped. And it shows. There are bold black stripes which are always a good look on a muscle car that run up the cowl induction hood and pins that try to hold it down to prevent the beast within from jumping out. The chrome trim around the SS grill and quad headlights shines brightly as does the bumper underneath them. The wheel wells are trimmed in the shiny stuff too and there are SS 454 badges on the front fenders. SS appears again in the blacked-out panel between the taillights and a couple chrome exhaust tips peek out from underneath another sharp looking bumper. Open the door and you will find a super clean interior that is a nice place to settle into for a comfortable cruise, or a serious place to operate from while you're creating a ruckus. The door panels set the tone with vertically pleated center sections outlined with thin chrome piping top and bottom and an SS badge at the front. The seats follow suit with the pleating, but add some extra interest by varying the textures and embroidering SS Super Sport into the headrests. Sweet! A three-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column and has a bowtie center button. Behind it, a VDO tachometer, temperature and oil pressure gauges have been swapped into the stock cluster to keep accurate track of critical engine functions. The controls for the Vintage Air system that blows cold even on those hot summer nights sits just above an FM/Cassette deck and a white Hurst shift ball rises out of a spotless center console just begging to be stirred around. Pull the pins, pop the hood, and get ready to be impressed. That is one serious piece of machinery nestled down in a neat and clean engine bay. It started life as a Dart Sportsman block which was bored out and built up into a 540 cubic inch stroker motor that pumps out big horsepower and huge amounts of torque. Components include H-beam rods, forged pistons, molly rings, a Crane .640 lift roller cam, a Melling timing set and pump and stainless roller rockers. Top it off with a big 4-barrel carburetor and polished Cross Wind aluminum intake, fire the mixture with an HEI system and get the spent gasses out through long tube headers and Flowmaster mufflers. Finned aluminum valve covers help with oil cooling and a chrome alternator and billet hood hinges dress things up a bit. Power flows back through a Richmond Super T-10 4-speed to a 12-bolt rear end held in place by boxed trailing arms. The rubber meets the road through 275/60R15s in the rear and 215/65R15s in the front mounted on Vintique SS reproduction wheels. Great looking, ground pounding, 4-speed, big block muscle. What's not to like? And what are you waiting for? Come on down and check this car out.
