1971 Chevrolet Vega Description

ISCA show car from the 1970s known as the War Wagon. Here’s the history that I’ve been able to dig up. I am the 5th caretaker of the car. It was built by Harvey Colson of Carol Stream, IL around 1972-1973 ( I haven’t had any luck tracking him down). It was at the Detroit Autorama in 1974, Cobo Hall, as seen in 2 HotRod magazines. I don’t know if it made any other appearances that year. It then made its way to a speed shop owner in Peru, IN, Ed’s Speed Shop. One of the pictures posted is from Indianapolis=the older hazy front shot which has the 2nd and current paint job. This was done by Jack Shifflett in Fort Wayne, IN in late 75. The graphics were by Advance Sign Co, also in Fort Wayne. It was shown until 1976, but before it was sold to Ed a state of Illinois vin tag was applied for April 14, 1975. It was issued May 28, 1975. The title is long gone according to the Illinois Secretary of State, all they can find is the SOS issued Vin #. The vehicle then made its way to Cincinnati, OH in an auctioneers collection approximately 2008. It had been sitting in Ed’s garage since 1977 from the look of the pictures that I have found of the car being pulled out. In 2009 Cornfield Customs in Milford, OH took it over and had it on display in their fabrication shop showroom. In 2017, I became the owner and its now located 1.5 hours west of Chicago. I pulled the blown up 327 and turbo 400 out over that winter. I built a fresh 355, powerglide with brake set up. I used the original Isky roller cam and blower set up. I installed all new injector nozzles, barrel valve spool, and lines for E-85. It has a new radiator system, since it had never had one previously. I installed Brodix heads with the original vertex magneto and headers. I rewired the car to run and changed out the shifter for the glide. The car now runs like a beast. I have taken it to the Woodward dream cruise and a cacklefest car show in Rockford, IL. I have all the receipts from the engine and tranny builds. It has a Halibrand quick change reared and a new driveshaft. The interior is the original leather with knights and horses stitched in it. I found the business card of the upholstery shop while cleaning the car. I took a picture of it and put it back. The engine has new H beam rods, Wisco pistons, Hastings rings, Clevite bearings, and Felpro gaskets. The rear calipers need reinstalled and bled. I have the calipers. The floor and engine bay panels are all polished stainless steel. The underside of the floor is engine turned. It has Cragar super trick wheels, funny car type chassis, chrome funny car front suspension and steering components, Iskenderian 6-71 blower and drive system, Enderly 3 rib top bug catcher. This thing has a very healthy sounding SBC, with ungodly throttle response, that gets lots of comments at shows. Comes with the original show props as well. I know I’ve missed a few items, there just too much to list. It will come with the old engine components and 400 tranny. Own a piece of history. I’ve got the two Hotrod magazines that it was showcased in. Sold as is no warranty, no title but still has the issued VIN number in the Illinois system. Show and cackle car.
