You are looking at a survivor 1974 Corvette Coupe. It has been garage stored since 1978 when the previous (original) owner has a minor accident that damaged only the fiberglass. That is when the car was parked in a local garage. Please scroll down and enjoy the 250+ photos. If you cannot view all the photos, please click here. We believe this Corvette has been one adult owned since new and is amazingly original including a numbers matching drivetrain and just about every code and number we could find.
After the small mishap, the owner had the foresight to go to the local Chevrolet dealer in the late 1970s and pickup everything needed for the car. The result was all the NOS GM pieces to repair the car including the hood surround, left fender, hood, side moldings, and a wealth of small parts.
Note that the rear bumper cover, hood surround and left fender are placed on the car for photo purposes and will need to be bonded to the car. During our brief parts inventory, we did not find a fender bonding strip and the front bumper (NOS GM) crumbled in our hands. These few parts are the only major pieces we could find that the new owner will need but there are no guarantees.
The interior is near mint and original. There are no dash cracks and the seats and carpeting are mint. The original radio is included as well. All the gauges accessories and lights work that we tested. Even the interior courtesy lights worked.
Mechanically, the car runs and drives well. The engine is smooth and quiet, but the accessories such as the water pump and the alternator will make noise intermittently and should be lubed or reconditioned due to age. The tires are very old and may be original. The brakes and rotors were done recently and the oil and filter were changed. It may need a carb rebuild and tune up from age but it is amazing how well it starts and runs. There is a bit of smoke from the valve guides that clears up. It looks like the spare tire has not been on the ground and the Delco battery is fairly fresh. The frame, while having surface and some scaly rust, is super solid. We did not find any areas of concern.
Given the ultra low miles, documentation and options, it is hard to find anything better than this to start with in this price range. What a great candidate for a cosmetic restoration. Please understand that you are buying a project. We believe this vehicle deserves a closer look and are appreciating nicely.
Remember that it needs a restoration or reconditioning and will require work. As mentioned above, the rear bumper cover, hood surround and left fender are placed on the car for photo purposes and will need to be bonded to the car. Also, please investigate all concerns, payment or financing and shipping costs prior to placing a bid.
