This 1967 Corvette is the only known and documented example of a Factory Shop Order Corvette. This car was built for Bob Wingate by Joe Pike of Chevrolet Product Promotions as a special favor and reward. Wingate led the nation for a number of years in a row for single handedly selling the most Corvettes for an individual...over 160 in 1967 alone. This car was done directly in St. Louis in late 1966, and has been restored to the way it was delivered to Bob Wingate.
The car as it showed up off the delivery truck at Clippinger’s Chevrolet in Covina, CA from St. Louis in late 1966, had the following unique items: M20 wide ratio trans with 435hp L71, Goodyear Blue Streak tires on American Racing Mags, Goodyear stickers on the body behind the front turn signals, no front bumpers (they were in a box behind the seats), grill inserts filling the bumper support holes, chrome bumper nuts filling the side holes for the front bumpers, hand lettered white 427 numerals on the hood, brake calipers painted white, the white hood stripe continuing over the top of the car and down the back, 6 tail lights, fender lips trimmed inside to fit the tires, a beautiful wood Nardi steering wheel, and flawless paint, fit, and finish.
The car is documented with a tank sticker and window sticker and has received the NCRS American Heritage award. It has appeared in countless magazine articles and has had a Danbury Mint model made after it. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful and unique Corvette ever made.
