1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Description

I’m offering my 1980 Camaro Z28 for sale. I bought it in June, 2015, and it has been the most fun vehicle I’ve ever owned. Please review my eBay history and feedback, and bid with confidence. My description is a bit wordy, but I want to be thorough so you can make a good decision. I am selling the car as my interests have changed and I plan to invest this money into a different hobby. If you’re looking for a car that gets attention EVERY time you drive it, this is the one. Be prepared to hear stories, pose for pictures, and answer a million questions. I will not arrange shipping but will make the car available and work with your shipping company for pickup. I will work with international buyers, but please be patient as I’ve not done that before. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE --- plan to have the car inspected, or schedule a time to come see it in person. My description is thorough and honest, but I may overlook something and, of course, the condition of a 40-year-old car can change. For this reason, you will buy the car AS-IS. I guarantee the title work, as I have a clear Texas title (in my name) in hand. The car is NOT listed for sale locally, and I will NOT accept an offer outside of eBay for the duration of the auction, so don’t ask. History – The Camaro was built in Van Nuys, CA, and shipped to Howell Chevrolet in Bonifay, FL. It was special ordered by a man in Napes, FL. He titled the car on 11/30/1979. The title was reassigned to the second owner in 2006. I purchased the car from the second owner, via a dealer who was liquidating his large collection and had it shipped to Texas in June 2015. At that time, the mileage was marked exempt on my Texas title due to the age. The car arrived in Texas with just over 30,000 miles on the odometer. The current mileage is 35,908. Although the law states the mileage is exempt, I believe, and convey to you, the mileage is original, having had a conversation recently with the original owner. When the car arrived in Texas, the tires looked brand new but were date stamped 10 years prior as the car had been stored in a collection. My local trusted mechanic of many years went over the car for me and confirmed that most everything mechanically was not only correct, but original and unmolested from 1979; including exhaust, ignition and wires, suspension parts, etc. I have copies of all the documentation mentioned above. I have the original window sticker, build sheet, and “dealer copy” of the sticker. See photos. I have more details of the history I am happy to share via phone call.

Mechanical – I’ve replaced the following items over my four years of ownership. Mufflers, plugs/wires/ignition, radiator/water pump/fan clutch/thermostat, A/C compressor (upgraded to new style and refrigerant,) clock, shocks, tires. I can’t say enough about how well the car runs and drives. It can sit for 2-3 months and fire up easily, run and idle smoothly, shift perfectly, and handle as it did in 1980. I really would not hesitate to drive it anywhere and would not think twice about you flying in and driving it back wherever you live. EVERYTHING works, and the car is a pleasure to drive. After driving the car, there will be one drop of oil from the rear main seal. Only one small drop, never more, and it hasn’t changed over the four years I’ve owned it. The engine bay is clean, but not “cleaned up”. Nothing has been painted over, and nothing is disguised. A very honest for 40-year-old car.

Body -- The car was repainted by the second owner. The paint is 9.5 out of 10. As you can see in the photo, the paint is glossy and smooth. The body is laser straight, with NO rust, NO filler, and all original panels. There is NO evidence of any prior damage. I believe the original paint failed, as did many GM cars in the early days of base coat/clear coat paint; especially the gray, silver, gold, and light blues. I don’t know, but I suspect the plastic body flares and spoiler may have been replaced when the car was painted. The stripe kit is 9 out of ten. The worst place on the paint is where the holes are in the front bumper for a license plate bracket, which I removed. Any other blemishes are tiny, and I would have to point them out in person as they are too minute to show in pics. I promise you’ll never have to make excuses for the paint or body. It’s stellar. The T-Tops are original Fischer panels. They are FACTORY panels, listed on the window sticker (which I have). If you see one of these cars in the late 70’s to ’81 with the wide silver metal strip around the glass, those were cut in aftermarket. My car was born with T-Tops.

Interior – The upholstery is original to the car, as is the dash, instruments, headliner, etc. The interior is 8.5 out of 10, due to a few small scratches here and there and normal wear in the carpet. Someone pointed out to me that the door panels may not be original, but I’m not sure how to tell and I guess that really doesn’t matter. As you can see from the pics, the interior is beautiful and needs nothing.

Instruments – All instruments work as they should. There is a period correct, aftermarket Jensen AM/FM cassette player. It works, but not very well, as it’s probably 40 years old as well. The car came with an AM/FM radio, which I do not have.

Undercarriage – There are a few photos of the underside of the car in the link provided. As you can see, nothing has been painted, modified, or otherwise molested. This is an honest undercarriage, just as a low mileage car from Florida and Central Texas should look like.

Ok, if you’re still interested, good luck. This car needs nothing, so you should be able to enjoy it immediately. There’s nothing quite like driving a T-Top car from this era. I’m sure I’ll regret selling it, but if it goes to a good home, maybe I can at least live vicariously through you via social media…
