Solid truck. Did not tow many trailers, but it will tow what you put behind it. I've owned this truck for 11 years. It's mostly highway miles - I commuted from Dallas to Houston every 4 days for the past 3 years and it never let me down. No rust.
Specs
350,921 miles
2WD Extended Cab, 8ft Bed
Heavy Duty Frame with 8 lug wheels and 14-bolt rear end. At the parts house if they ask you if you have the small brakes of the large brakes - its the large ones. Same for bearings, shocks and anything else suspension related. This is the true 3/4 ton frame - not the lightweight cheap version Chevy tried to push for a while
6.5l Turbo Diesel - this beast of an engine is heavy and heavy duty. It’s not the most powerful, but it keeps on running and will keep going if you change the oil and take care of the injector pump. That means diesel additive and changing the fuel filter often

Transmission was new from GM at 170,000 miles. Since then, flushed transmission fluid every 50,000 miles and dropped pan to change filter. A real flush. I unhook the cooler outlet and hose it to a bucket. Run the truck and let the transmission pump fluid out while I pour clean fluid in the top until clean fluid comes out the transmission cooler. This process takes 5 gallons. It's coming due and I have the oil and filter with the truck.
