1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Tribute Description

This brutal 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 Tribute was built for just one thing, and it sure wasn't getting groceries or taking your grandmother to church. It brings a stout big block, fantastic color combination, and a strong-arm attitude to the table, and as a result it's pretty hard to resist. You just can't go wrong with basic black, as they did on this slick Chevelle. No distracting SS stripes, no blacked-out trim, just a great paint job and... brand new vinyl top that lets the quality do the talking. Despite very minimal imperfections, it's still nice enough to see your reflection without distortions, and on a black car there's just no place for bad bodywork to hide, you either get it right or you start all over. Although it's been driven and enjoyed some since completion, the paint on this car can still proudly compete at just about any show you find. The hood is a welcome relief from all the obscenely tall cowl-induction units you usually see and it helps this car keep a somewhat low profile on the street. Other than the SS badges in the blacked-out grille and the anachronistic "427" badges on the front fenders, the body is slicked out, and that helps to show off those impressive flanks. Chrome bumpers and minimal bright work provide just enough contrast to the look of this '69, and the vivid red taillights lenses seem even brighter on a black car like this. Man, this is one sinister Chevy. You'd expect a basic black bucket seat interior in this sinister SS, but and they went one better by covering the stock seats with Bright Blue Metallic vinyl. It's a little (OK, a lot) flashier than what you typically find in a black Chevelle, but the horizontal stitching is OEM-style and the dash and door panels have been restored to match. There's no center console, but on a car built for combat it's just dead weight, and once people see that Hurst cue ball sticking out of the transmission tunnel, they know this car is serious about performance. The original gauges have been augmented by a column-mounted SunPro tachometer, a trio of Equus auxiliary gauges underneath, and the dash pad was dyed to match the rest of the interior. A Retrosound AM/FM/AUX radio with digital tuning slots neatly into the original radio's location and uses period-looking knobs to complete the illusion. The spacious trunk is a bit nicer than stock, with a period-correct vinyl mat, jack assembly, and a full-size spare, making this SS tribute a fine long-distance cruiser, too. The 396 cubic inch V8 big block under the hood has been augmented with a FiTech fuel injection that provides an immediate punch to the engine when you nail the throttle. If you can touch it, it's probably new, from the polished intake aluminum intake and power brake set-up, to the HEI distributor and more modern ignition, all of which are nicely presented with the engine bay. A few splashes of chrome like the valve covers, air filter, and aluminum radiator and it's cover give you something to look at whenever you pop the hood, and you can tell they spent extra time to get everything arranged just so to look its best. Underneath, it's very clean, with a slick-shifting 4-speed gearbox driving a 12-bolt rear with 3.73 Posi gears, a fresh gas tank, and recent shocks all around. The exhaust system features long-tube headers, huge pipes, and chambered mufflers for a great sound, and it rolls on classic chrome Cragars with grippy performance radials all around. Great Chevelles always combine performance and looks in one easy-to-love package, and this SS396 Tribute is proof. Call today!
