1964 Chevrolet Impala -- Description

The 1964 Impala is just as iconic today as it was when it was new. As a testament to their enduring popularity, just watch any music video or check out the garage of a pro athlete's home-they're all rolling in vintage Impalas just like this lovely Ember Red hardtop. Sporting a strong-running 350, automatic transmission, and a fresh paint job that looks fantastic, it's next summer's best bet for stylish cruising. This is about as close as... you're going to get to a brand new 1964 Impala. Virtually everything but the roof and pillars are new: quarters, doors, fenders, hood, all of it is fresh, clean sheetmetal. That means it's ultra-clean and ultra-straight, and at this price, it represents something of a bargain. The paint was sprayed as soon as the bodywork was finished, and the brilliant red paint works rather well on the stylish Imp's bodywork adding a high-visibility touch that only accentuates the straight lines. The guys who did the work knew what they were doing because there are no obvious signs of the upgrades; the body fits together well, with good gaps, neat trim alignment, and a solid feeling going down the road. All the chrome and stainless trim sparkles and even the side trim is remarkably devoid of parking lot dings. Despite the resto-mod stance and wheels, this Impala has a very authentic look and feel once you get up close and personal. Inside, the original-style red vinyl interior remains in exceptionally good condition. Refreshed at some point, it's a nice blend of original styling and reproduction parts that make the Impalas perennial favorites. Both front and rear seats are in excellent condition with new foam underneath, and even the driver's area shows very little wear. Recent carpets are the correct color and weave, and the door panels are neatly detailed pieces that blend right in. A console and T-handle floor shifter were part of the deal on an SS, so there's no reason not to have them here, and it certainly feels right to reach down and rest your hand on the chrome lever. The factory gauges cover the basics and the original AM radio is still in place, but it sadly isn't working (which also means that you can install the system of your choice just in time to go cruising). In back, the cavernous trunk is neatly finished with new floors and fresh mats. There's a 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood, which is a nice step up from the original 327, and it looks exactly the same! Nicely detailed and obviously well maintained, it runs like a small block Chevy should, with easy road manners and an awesome V8 soundtrack. It's also correctly dressed, with 327 decals on the valve covers, an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor under the factory air cleaner, and a painted intake manifold. Power steering and brakes make it easy to handle, but all the factory-style parts are there, including the single reservoir master cylinder. A big radiator keeps things nice and cool and there's a fresh alternator in place of the factory generator. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts well and feeds the original rear end, and while you're under there, please note that the fresh floors, exhaust system, gas tank, shocks, and other components really make this car feel fresh and tight. It has a bit of a rake, just for some attitude, and sits on Rally wheels with 205/70/15 BFGoodrich blackwall radials all around. This Impala is a timeless resto-mod that's also wonderful to drive.
