There are two guaranteed ways to stop traffic with an old school Chevelle. You can take the traditional path and buy a highly optioned original car that's fit for a plastic bubble. Or, you can pick up a solid road warrior, grab a bunch of vendor catalogs and build the nastiest resto-mod your money can buy! Take this tough hardtop for example. Sporting a buff 502/3-speed drivetrain, a thoroughly upgraded suspension and stunning black and silver aesthetics, this Chevy is a near perfect combination of vintage feel and cutting edge technology. Forget some stuffy trailer queen that's constantly framed in little red ropes. And forget a 'me too' modern car that'll depreciate faster than its 5-year payoff. With this impressive coupe, you can truly have your cake and eat it too!

BODYWORK/TRIM

When this A-body left GM's Van Nuys assembly plant in January of 1970, it looked much different than it does today. For starters, the car was covered in a common coat of Fathom Blue single-stage. A run-of-the-mill small block lived between its factory-prepped wheel wells. And coated Black fabric wrapped its standard bench interior. Yes, to make a long story short, it was an era-specific grocery getter that lacked the aesthetic longevity to drop jaws and turn heads. To remedy that, the original paint was stripped and replaced by a slick coat of Mercedes Iridium Silver 2-stage. Custom Mercedes Palladium Silver stripes literally put the icing on the cake. Those feeble drivetrain and interior components were traded for custom-stitched buckets and a fuel-injected version of the ultimate Chevy big block. And today, three years after a 6-figure restoration, this top dog coupe sits as a spectacular piece of iconic American muscle that's detailed to better-than-new standards.

Many enthusiasts view early '70s Chevelles as the pinnacle of both muscle car and classic Chevy design. At the front of this sophisticated street fighter, a black crossbar grille hangs a prominent "SS" emblem between chrome-trimmed headlights, small marker lamps and a fresh chrome bumper. Opposite that bumper, a pinned ZL2 hood flows to polished cowl vents, fresh glass and pristine stainless trim. At the base of that trim, straight wheel frames, chrome door handles and clear marker lamps complement a color-keyed Camaro driver's mirror and monochromatic "SS502" badging. And at the back of the car, a second chrome bumper hangs clear brake lights between a fresh "Chevelle by Chevrolet" script and polished exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Gaze in to the smoothed, body-matched engine bay and you'll find 502 cubic inches of Chevrolet fury! At the top of the sinister mill, a polished Nelson Racing Alien intake mixes electronically injected fuel with wind sourced from polished air tubes and dual K&N filters. That air/fuel mixture floods polished aluminum heads, which hang polished breathers and polished valve covers over beefy Stainless Works headers. At the back of those headers, Electromotive Engine Control sequences spark through proven MSD Super Conductor plug wires. At the front of those wires, polished serpentine components spin a coated Weiand water pump between a polished Powermaster alternator and coated Sanden AC compressor. In front of those components, a polished aluminum radiator circulates coolant around two electric puller fans thanks to a pliable hose and custom tube. And items like trick dipsticks, polished fluid reservoirs and Eddie Motorsports hood supports ensure first class detailing.

DRVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Beneath this Chevy, a clean undercarriage tells the story of roughly 1,000 miles. Rock-solid floorpans are sealed in tough undercoating, setting the perfect backdrop for a roster of high quality parts. Behind the immaculate big block, a professionally built Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed spins an aluminum driveshaft, which twists a familiar 12-bolt axle around big, 3.73 gears. That excellent drivetrain is framed by a mostly stock suspension that's been upgraded with QA-1 shocks, Global West control arms and an AGR steering box. When the road starts to twist, a power-assisted rack maximizes driver input. Power-assisted SSBC calipers bridge the gap between four slotted discs and a polished SSBC booster. A sweet, but equally brutal, soundtrack is piped to remote controlled cutouts, or 3-inch pipes that hang an H-shaped crossover in front of Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers. Power flows through custom Billet Specialties wheels, which turn 235/35ZR19 Nitto NT05s in front of 275/40ZR20 Nitto NT05s. And detail items include a Milodon deep-sump oil pan, a chrome flywheel cover, a finned transmission pan and a polished fuel tank.

INTERIOR

Featuring a host of custom accents, this coupe's crisp, leather cockpit is both inviting and unique. Its slick seat combo, which features Palladium Silver accents, is firm to the touch and shows no signs of wear. In front of those seats, a straight and crack-free dash hangs Dakota Digital gauges, controls for the car's air conditioning and a modern Alpine CD player behind a correct Super Sport instrument panel. Below that dash, a black and Iridium Silver console anchors a horseshoe shifter above premium carpet and Chevelle themed floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, leather door panels center metallic trim and requisite handles on pliable armrests. In front of the driver, a Billet Specialties Formula Version wheel laps a tilting Ididit steering column. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features matching carpet.
