Up For Auction Is A
1961 Corvair Rampside Truck
This is a partially completed project vehicle that I don't have time to finish and I need the storage area for other items.
It starts and runs well but needs further attention to be fully road worthy. I bought it after an estate auction and have completed quite a few repairs and replacements since then. It is a basic model with the 3-speed manual transmission and no options.
A few of the completed items include:
-replaced choke cable with new original
-replaced accelerator cable with new original
-replaced fuel pump with new electric
-replaced both carbs with fully rebuilt units, new fuel lines
-replaced distributor with later model including new points, condenser, cap, rotor and vacuum advance
-new coil, spark plugs and wires
-new battery & battery cables
-disconnected and drained fuel tank (rusty and leaking), temporary plastic tank installed for testing (see photo)
-new air filters, oil and oil filter, various wiring, springs & fasteners
All parts were purchased from Clarks Corvair Parts.
Items that need to be done:
-remove old gas tank and install new, lined tank with new sender and all new connections and hardware (all of these parts are included)
-replace intake valve seals (included)
-replace pushrod o-rings (included)
-replace valve cover and oil pan gaskets (included)
-replace voltage regulator (?) (included)
-adjust valves
-adjust and synchronize carbs
-replace brake master cylinder (new dual system kit included)
-replace cab carpet and backing (included)
-service brakes as needed
-refurbish and adjust shift linkage (new bushing included)
-install Pertronix ignition system if desired (included)
Again, all parts were purchased from Clarks.
There are other new and used parts that will be included as well as a complete set of manuals.
The primary mechanical issue with the truck is that while it starts and idles well, it does not have much power which I think is because it needs the valves adjusted and the carbs adjusted and synced.
The brakes work but would probably benefit from cleaning and adjusting.
There is some body work that was performed by a previous owner that should probably be re-done (see photos). There is a rubber lip fastened to the sheet metal below the front bumper (photo) that hides some contact with the ground or ?
This would make a great project for someone with the time and mechanical skills. It is very close to being road drivable.

All photos were taken in August, 2015 and the truck has been stored inside a dry clean building. I started it today (5/23/16) with no problem.
Note: The black plastic tank on the sidewall in the bed is a temporary gas tank since the old tank leaks.
