1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Description

Why this car is special

You're looking at a very original, high optioned 1968 big block Camaro. I have owned this First Gen Camaro for many years and have diligently kept this car as original and period correct and possible.

If you're looking for a car to restore, this probably isn't the right car for you. This original CA built car is unrestored which is what makes it so special. There are many 1968 Camaro's that are either restored or deserving of a restoration, this is not one of them. The cool factor on this car is a '10' because it is not restored and you won't find another one like it on the planet. It has an early 1970's flame paint job on it that has had minor touch ups done to it over the decades but it's unique and just plain bitchen! Look at the photos, it's old paintwork which is what I really like about it and it gets more attention at the car shows than any freshly painted car. Driving down the road, the paint actually looks really good but up closely you can see some wear and tear.

This is a factory RS/SS 396 big block Camaro. It was purchased in Sacramento on July 23, 1968 from Lew Williams Chevrolet and still retains much of its original documentation including the protecto plate, owner's manual, several original dealer brochures, First CA registration, GM Dealer new vehicle inspection sheet, dozens of dealer service records through the early 1970's, both original CA DMV black plates and both license plate frames from Lew Williams Chevrolet. This is a load options documented car that is mechanically sound and ready to enjoy!

Factory Options include:

Super Sport 396/325 Engine (1968 date code rebuilt in 2016)

Rally Sport (hide away headlamps completely rebuilt and working)

Original born with rebuilt Turbo 400 transmission

Original born with 12 bolt rear end (rebuilt PP code)

Factory Air Condition (Works well)

Factory disc brakes (currently 69 calipers but the 4 piston originals will come with the car)

Factory Power Steering

Original and near perfect deluxe interior (no cracks in original dash pad or door panels)

Factory fold down rear seat

Factory tilt steering column with factory original wood wheel

Factory tach and gauges (all work except the clock)

Factory center console in excellent original condition

Factory AM radio (doesn't currently make noise, probably the original dash speaker)

Mechanically the car is in excellent condition and runs great. The motor, transmission and rear end have all been rebuilt in the last 5 years with very few miles driven since. With the exception of the clock and radio, everything works on the car including the hide away headlamps, A/C, all gauges, dome lamps, ETC. This car is an unrestored time capsule that is a solid, reliable, 100% rust free driver.

All of the body panels are original to the car and it's the cleanest body that I've ever seen with no rust anywhere. It's a totally 100% dry car with no metal work ever having been done. All the original weather strip from 1968 is still on the car, the original trunk splatter is still present and in amazingly good condition. The door and trunk jambs are still the original factory paint and in decent condition.

The trim work on the car is all original in in excellent shape as well. I replaced both the vinyl top and the headliner in the last few years. The exhaust was redone when the motor was rebuilt with dual flow masters done by Ed Hansen's Muffler in Spring Valley, CA. New spiral shocks were also added at the same time as well as the entire front-end suspension.

I have posted photos with both US mags with BFG's as well as the original GM rally wheels with BFG's. I have enjoyed changing the look of the car over the years and I will include either set with the car with the option of taking both sets which is negotiable.

I have several Camaro's and this one has been a joy to own and care for but it's time to let someone else have the opportunity to enjoy this piece of Camaro history.
