Please view the close-up photos below that show some of these important numbers. UNDERCARRIAGE & FRAME: Let's talk about the frame first because this is the most important area to inspect when looking to buy a classic Corvette. The frame on this 1961 is very solid and without any rust repairs. There isn't any undercoating that is hiding any past repairs or problem areas. As you can see from the undercarriage photos, The frame is smooth and doesn't have any scaling rust or pit marks from past rust issues. The whole undercarriage was recently cleaned and detailed with the correct semi-flat black chassis paint. The springs, shocks, and other items where all detailed with the correct paint finish, and paint inspection marks. The fiberglass underbody was cleaned and left bare just how it was when it left the factory. Nine times out of ten, people selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the underside. The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, that is why I took a few pictures of the bottom. PAINT/BODY: From what I can find out from the past owner history, the vehicle was restored in 2008/2009. The paint on this convertible is called "Tuxedo Black". It was painted during the restoration and is holding up very well. There are a few very small chips that were all properly touched up at one time along with a few very small stress crackes here and there which are pretty typical for these Corvettes. There are no buff makes, orange peel, or bubbles in the paint. As you can see from the photos, the body is very straight and shows an excellent flat reflection with the black paint. It was all properly prepped and repainted correctly including the doors jams, hood and trunk areas. The fiberglass lips around all four wheel openings are intact and not broken. CHROME/TRIM: All of the chrome pieces have been replated or replaced with new items. The front and rear chrome bumpers look fantasic with no pitting or dulling. They are aligned and fitted to the body correctly. The taillights/parking lights bezels, emblems, rear view mirror, side cove spears, and door handles are all without any pitting or problems. The stainless steel trim pieces have been polished and look very nice. No major dents or scratches in any of the stainless steel moldings. All four headlights have the correct original looking "T3" bulbs with the correct painted headlight surround bezels. CONVERTIBLE TOP: The beige cloth convertible soft top is in excellent condition. I'm guessing it was replaced when the vehicle was restored in 2009. The beige colored top gives the vehicle a very rich and classy look. It goes very well with the black paint and the Fawn interior color scheme. There are no marks, rips, tears, or holes on the top. The rear plastic window is not discolored, wrinkled, or fogging. The interior headliner material/padding of the convertible is all new also and looks great. The convertible top storage compartment is clean and detailed with a black soft top window protector felt on the gas tank cover. INTERIOR: The factory "Fawn Beige" color interior is in excellent condition and looks great. It was entirely redone in 2009. New correct seat covers, seat foam, door panels with new aluminum inserts, arm rests, along with new fawn "80/20" Tuxedo weave carpeting which is correct for '61. New matching floor mats along with seat belts are also installed. The polished aluminum sill plates are in great shape without any of the typical wear or scuffs. The instrument cluster looks great. It was removed, cleaned and the gauges were gone over. All of the chrome pieces/trim inside the car are also very nice. The chrome knobs and dash parts do not show any pitting or problems. The steering wheel is newer and is in great shape without any cracks or chips. The cowl vent lever is working flawlessly and lets a ton of fresh air in when driving. The "Wonderbar" radio was professionally gone over along with having the original speaker re-coned. Both are working correctly along with the wipers, lights, gauges, horns, tachometer, speedometer, odometer, and clock. Under the dash looks neat and orderly with all the wiring harnesses and other components in their correct places. (Not a rat's nest.) The storage area between the seats is correctly detailed with the paint protection label decal attached to the console door. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine compartment is very clean and highly detailed to original condition. To do this correctly, the engine and transmission where both removed, cleaned, detailed, and reinstalled this past winter. Once again this is the correct matching number 283cu. in. 270HP engine that came with the vehicle. With the assembly identification stamping of "1104962" and "F1219CU" (Flint, Dec. 19th, 270hp 2x4 Carb. Hi-Lift Cam w/Manual Transmission) into the engine pad. Please view the close up photo of the unpainted engine stamp pad. (Don't you just love the other car listings telling you about "matching numbers" and if they have a photo of the engine stamp pad, it usally very small, out of focus, and has paint hiding the flaws! Not here!) I list and show all of the important casting and stamped numbers below in the photo gallery. The correct heat shielding, radio shielding, air cleaner, valve covers, radiator and fan shroud are all present. It also has the correct date coded generator that drives the tachometer. Everything in this engine compartment was removed cleaned or painted and then reinstalled. All of the hoses, belts, vacuum hoses, spark plugs, ignition wires along with the fluids have been gone over. Most everything is correct, right down to the inspection marks, decals, correct hose clamps, and paint colors for all the parts. It has the correct date coded dual point distributor, tach driven generator, starter, voltage regulator and expansion tank. The radiator is a new reproduction and is unpainted natural aluminum which is correct for the early '61 built cars. See the "Mechanical" description area for more details on the engine. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The trunk compartment is also detailed and is show ready. It has a fawn colored rubber floor mat with a fawn cardboard division panel installed. Under the rubber mat and original plywood cover with jacking instruction/posi warning sticker sits a B.F.Goodrich Silvertown bias ply wide whitewall spare tire. Size: 6.70-15. It is in very nice condition. The original jack is missing. The rest of the jacking tools are all present and are held in place with the proper hardware. WHEELS and TIRES: All four rims are painted correctly. (With semi-gloss black paint on the backside and gloss black paint on the front.) The factory stock wheel covers with the chrome spinners are all installed. A few of the spinner are starting to show some slight pitting in the chrome. The stainless steel hubcaps are polished and are all in very nice condition without any major scraps or dents. Mounted on these stock rims are four 6.70-15 B.F. Goodrich Slivertown bias ply tires with the correct size wide whitewall. The tires are in great condition with plenty of tread. GLASS: The side glass looks to be still original with the correct LOF "Safety Plate" logo etched near the bottom corners. The windshield has been replaced at one time. It looks great and doesn't have the typical road nicks and/or wiper marks. There are no chips, cracks, or scratches on the side windows. Both side windows roll up and down without any problems. The outside rearview mirror is newer and looks good with no scratches or de-lamination problems. MECHANICAL: Engine-Transmission-Rear End: The entire drivetrain is original to the vehicle with the correct casting numbers and date codes. (See photos of all the important numbers/codes) This 283cu. in. 270HP engine is running great and is very strong with no known problems. This optional "CU" coded engine came with a "Hi-Lift" cam, solid valve lifters and high compression pistons. The idle is awesome with a strong "lopey" sound. I'm not sure when, but the engine was rebuilt at one time. It does not smoke, leak, tick, or bog. Feeding this engine are two of the correct Carter WCFB carberators. This dual-quad setup was been adjusted and dialed in for peak performance. The car runs cool and doesn't over heat with a new original style radiator. The radiator is 100% correct with the date coded tag and sticker. It is unpainted which is correct for the early '61 models. The correct oil canister with a replaceable filter element is installed. The battery is strong and has an original looking Delco battery topper installed along with a "Cutoff" switch. (Quick disconnect when the vehicle is being stored.) The factory optional Borg Warner T-10 4-speed manual transmission with the correct casting numbers and stamped date code is bolted to this power plant. Stamped: WA1712 (Jan 17th, 1961 - Second shift.) This transmission shifts nice and easy. It does not leak or make any type of noise. Sometimes it does pop out of second gear. Not sure if the shift levers need to be adjusted a little. The original shifter with reverse lockout works smoothly and is a joy to run through the gears. The clutch is in great condition and has been adjusted. The original date coded rear differential is a Posi 4.11:1 with the correct "AP" stamped code. (see photos.) It is working great and does not make any noise. The driveshaft has the correct "3712377" stencil painted on it. Brakes: Being this vehicle hasn't been driven a lot over the last few years, the entire brake system was taken apart and flushed. It then received all new wheel cylinders, the master cylinder was rebuilt, and the brake hoses were replaced. These stock drum brakes were adjusted and are working great. They do not pulsate, fade, or pull. The parking brake has been adjusted and is working fine. Suspension: The stock suspension is in good condition. All of the componets were cleaned, and detailed correctly. The rear leaf springs are still origional with the correct numbers on them. Newer shocks on the front and rear which have been painted gloss black to match the original ones. Most of the original inspection paint markings were duplicated and replaced. The rear axle area also has the correct "Rebound Straps" attached. The car drives awesome without any shakes or vibrations. Exhaust: The vehicle has the correct coded exhaust manifolds that feed into an "Aluminized" dual exhaust system. The system has the optional round "Off Road" mufflers that gives the car a deep strong sound especially with the hi-lift cam. The system is polished and looks new. Bolted to the exhaust system are the correct copper braided radio grounding straps. Bolted to the passenger side exhaust manifold is a correct heat riser valve that works with the thermal choke on the carburator.
