1970 Chevrolet Corvette -- Description

Red Corvettes are always going to be popular, and you know we love them here at Streetside Classics. This 1970 Corvette coupe represents the opportunity to buy a great-running early C3 with lots of charisma for not a lot of money, and if history is any indication, there are going to be a lot of guys out there trying to take advantage of this offer. The swoopy styling of the C3 has actually aged rather well and... today offers a retro look that's immensely popular. Painting that dramatic shape red only helps the cause, and this one also adds gray powdercoated bumpers, giving it a dose of aggression that some of these early cars were missing. For an early C3, the gaps are quite good and the fiberglass is in excellent shape, and the guys in charge of making it shine did an outstanding job. The tag says this one was originally Donnybrooke Green, but during the restoration they brightened it up to Monza Red and never looked back. Fit and finish are good for a low-cost Corvette and there's a deep shine that's probably better than new. Aside from the subtle bumper color change, it remains complete stock externally, and 1970 was a great year with details like the egg crate grills up front and in the fenders, as well as the rectangular exhaust tips that make it look as fast as it is. The black interior is pure Corvette, which means it's both luxurious and sporty with enough creature comforts to make it a great long-distance cruiser. The seats were switch from tan to black covers during the restoration, and once you're situated behind the wheel, new upholstery does make quite a difference in the "seat of the pants" feeling. Correct door panels and new carpets were fitted at the same time and still look great. All the gauges appear to be original and it is equipped with somewhat rare factory A/C, which is a nice addition to any early 'Vette. There's also an upgraded AM/FM head unit that slots into the original radio's place in the center stack, blending in like it was born there. An aftermarket woodgrained wheel warms things up a bit and with a 4-speed, this is great place to hang out. The cargo area remains in great shape, and you'll note this car features optional shoulder belts, a nice upgrade. The 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood is archetypal Corvette and a strong runner. It looks great wearing finned valve covers and Chevy Orange paint, and the air cleaner advertises 370 horsepower on tap (although we're not sure of the specification). It's easy to get in and turn the key for just about anything, making this Corvette daily-driver-friendly. It still inhales through a stock Rochester QuadraJet carburetor and there's evidence of care over the years because it runs extremely well. The 4-speed makes the most of the small block V8's performance and the underside shows off a lifetime living someplace warm, because even a Corvette chassis can suffer in winter climates. A newer exhaust system with an X-pipe gives it an appropriate V8 burble and factory Rally wheels wrapped in 265/60/15 white-letter radials have the right look. Not every Corvette needs to be a matching-numbers pedigree piece. Instead, discover the fun of owning a vintage 'Vette you can simply enjoy as a car without worrying about protecting an investment.
