1970 Chevrolet Malibu Description

1970 Chevrolet Malibu

The storied Chevelle is one of those timeless designs that looks good no matter how it's built. Stock, modified, race, pro-touring, whatever; the clean lines and balanced stance on these tough classics create a confident swagger that's universally admired. That means, if you're looking to ride in style, you really can't go wrong with a Chevrolet A-Body. And when you factor in this ride's big block drivetrain, tastefully restored interior and first rate, all-American sheetmetal, you get the picturesque profile of an incredible muscle car!

Looking at this beautiful restoration I have shades of the Pacific Coast Highway, driving across the Bixbee Bridge, heading to point Lobos to do some Ansel Adams-esque image capturing. Tickling the accelerator, headed north from Big Sur, does life get any better? I give you the inspiration for this memory the Chevy Malibu, right here on the east coast at Classic Auto Mall.

Exterior
A Black respray covers the original Autumn Gold from the factory. Close inspection shows a nicely done paint job, and no rust or eruptions in the paint are seen anywhere. Steel panels are straight, and gaps are well minded with the exception of the trunk lid on this classic Chevy. Badging is all clean and clear, door handles show in very nice condition, as do the bumpers. Window surrounds and drip moldings are very nice, as is the rocker trim. Deep chromed dish trim rings and bow tie badged hub caps are wrapped by BF Goodrich T/A's on all 4 corners of this car. Bringing up the rear is a sloping rear window, long trunk and a nice bumper which has the rectangular tail lighting imbedded within it.

Interior
Looking mostly original we see door panels that are nice and straight vinyl patterns in black. Front buckets are covered in vinyl as well, and have mesh, tucked roll and flat black vinyl which makes for an interesting and sporty design. The rear bench is original and presents in in the same pattern as the front buckets. Carpeting appears like new in black and is covered with carpeted floor mats. Fronting the seating area is an unrestored original dash which has a Pioneer aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette radio, and a single gauge hanging below it. A smaller Billet style SS leather steering wheel is atop the original steering column. The gearshift is like the throttle on the Starship Enterprise dripping with aircraft nuance.

Drivetrain
Definitely the money shot on this car as we open the hood, a completely restored engine bay with a rebuilt and non-original 396ci V8 topped with a 4-barrel carburetor. A TH400 3-speed automatic and a 12-bolt rear are noted. Headers are also present and accounted for.

Undercarriage
All original with some factory spray rustproofing, which has done its job, as only surface rust is present on the frame, and none on the floorpans. Also, no rust and just new rubber weather stripping is noted on the bottom of the doors. The interior of the trunk is very clean and definitely a texture spray has been shot on. Coil springs with independent suspension up front, and coil springs with 4 link suspension are on the rear.

Drive-Ability
A smooth muscle car powered car, with a great retro interior, nice power and a head turner with the nice black paint. Good smooth steering, braking, and power options all were in working order. The gauge cluster was inoperable, including the speedometer and odometer. The radio, turn signals and heater were all inoperable. Also noted is the cowl hood flapper does not open under full throttle acceleration.

A nicely done Chevrolet Malibu, with a new power plant, and transmission, new paint, Chevy wheels, and mostly original and recovered interior that shows some age. Definitely a turn key car, it will be up the potential buyer if you want to take it to the next step with the interior dash, or just drive it!
