1985 Chevrolet El Camino Description

For sale without reserve a two owner El Camino with 65,819 original miles. This vehicle has been owned by a lady in San Diego in excess of twenty years. She operates a bed and breakfast and used it once a week to go to market. Now, having learned about Uber and direct delivery, and "not wanting to drive anymore", she says "sell it". She does not want to pay anymore insurance and registration!

I try to provide good information from my driving and observing the cars I post in an effort to achieve satisfied customers and 100% feedback. So please bear with me.

I would like to be able to brag that being a California car it has no rust but in fact it's lived outdoors under a tree its entire life and has rust in the bottom of the left door and another spot high up on the interior left front of the bed; see photos. The left door window does not close square and most likely needs new plastic glides. It goes up and down but doesn't "seat" or "seal" in the rubber. The factory dash pad is cracked and creviced and there is a cover over it; see photos. There are seat covers on the seats and I did not look under them. The entire car could use a good detailing. The radio is factory Am-Fm and the windows are manual, not electric.

She had it repainted "some years ago" and that paint is failing in a few spots. Whomever painted it also sold her Rhino lining for the bed, see photo. There is also a ding on the upper left rear of the bed; see photo.

I drove the car about twenty miles to my photo hobby shop and it runs well. It is slow to start (about ten seconds cranking) and I suspect the carburetor may be leaking down when parked for a long time. Once started I can hear a very small exhaust leak which diminishes once warmed up. The engine is strong and transmission shifts smartly and she runs down the road smoothly. I am told that everything except tires and battery is original and that it has had regular oil changes at a local garage. I have not detailed the car or engine so what you see in the photos is exactly what it is. You may see some water in the photos or dark spots in the Rhino liner because I did wash but did not dry it! I observe and smell no oil leaks. The 205/75R14 radial tires appear to be about 80% good and excellent.

So ... what we have here is a good little El Camino suitable to continue to use as is, it has a lot of miles left in her, or a great candidate for restoration. The structure and drive train is solid. It does need some cosmetic help.

It has been smogged and $120 California Registration is due December 12. Winner / new owner will get a clean California Title. Winner has 30 days to coordinate / arrange pick up. After 30 days I charge $10 per day. Want to fly in and drive it home? I will pick you up at San Diego airport and deliver you to the vehicle for free. Test drives and personal observation recommended and available by contacting me for an appointment.
