1957 CHEVROLET CONVERTIBLE PROJECT NO RESERVE
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 Description
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION SO THAT THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THIS CAR. This car was listed last summer and the auction ended with a winning bidder who questioned my ethics and honesty. If you are interested in this car, I can provide a reference from a reputable company that many people know in the hot rod industry. I can only assume that the winning bidder from last summer must have mental issues. Now on with the car.I purchased this car just over a year ago and realized that the project is beyond my capabilities.
FRAME: The frame is clean and solid. I can only assume that the body was off at one time.SUSPENSION: Looks to be original.FLOORS: There has been repairs made on the floors however it looks like the floor sections that have been replaced were done with donor parts. Welding will be required if you want to keep the floors. The trunk floor has still has rusted through areas.ROCKERS: The rocker panels were replaced but done poorly. Expect to rework themBODY: Again, there has been patches made in the body and done poorly. The patches were made with donor car parts. Expect to rework some of the body panels. (if not all)ENGINE & TRANNY: 350/350. Was told that it was running when removed from a Monte Carlo. Please look at the pictures. It needs components to get running again.CONVERTIBLE TOP: The top irons are in great shape and it still has the old canvas. THERE IS A NEW TOP (MATERIAL) THAT IS INCLUDED. (SEE PIC.) There are two top cylinders and pump motor but they will need repair or replacing.TRIM PIECES: The 57 convertible has some unique (and expensive) trim. This car comes with it all. You will need to purchase a rear window garnish molding available for about 90 dollars from Eklers.GLASS: The windshield is NEW and installed. Also the door glass and wing vent glass is new but not installed. (see pics.)INTERIOR: The seats are there and some misc door & rear panels. Gauges have not been tested.
Here is what you should expect from this car: Expect to buy parts: Expect to do a lot of welding: Expect to do body work: Expect to do mechanical work.: Expect to buy and install a new interior: Expect to re-wire the entire car. Expect to paint the car. In other words, expect to do a full restoration.
I have focused on the bad things on this car because I don't want anyone to be angry when they find out that the car needs work. There are a lot of good things about the car. The car has potential and is a good candidate for restoration. The car is mostly complete.
