Numbers Matching Fuel Injection
1961 Chevrolet Corvette Description
This is numbers matching 1961 Corvette Roadster 283 cid 315 hp with factory fuel injection, four speed transmission, power windows, and the optional heater, radio and hardtop. GM incorporated 6 digits of the VIN into the engine block number so the numbers matched. The "107863" in the VIN is also part of the engine block number, the 0419 is the April 19, 1961 build date, and theCS indicates fuel injection.
The car is Sateen Silver with Ermine White coves and red interior, the soft top is black and the optionalhardtop issateen silver with a white headliner. The paint is in great shape. The hubcaps and body emblems are brand new. All the chrome is in excellent pit-free condition and shines beautifully. The car is garage kept and under a car cover with a trickle charger on battery (both included). The 1961 got a redesigned rear-end (used on C-2 Stingrays) and for the first time had four circle taillights which GM kept as the trademark of a Corvette for well over 50 years.
All the gauges are as original, work and illuminate, including the cigarette lighter, and courtesy dash light. The high beam indicator works and the emergency brake warning light flashes after the bulb warms up. The inside of the glove box door has the correct GM Paint maintenance sticker. The dashboard and drivers doormirrors are new and carry the "Guide manufacturer" stamp. Thetail light lenscovers and front running light lens covers were also made by Guide and carry their part stamp. The car has the correct hardware GM used for installing the sun visors. The heater has a new blower and works great.
The seat belts are the correct lite orange 4 panel belt (late 1961 VIN) and have the exact reproduction of the labels sewn on each belt by GM subcontractor "Irving Air Chute" Louisville, Ky. and the buckles have the stamped patent numbers, they took about a year to get an are installed using the correct hardware. The seats covers, carpet, trunk mat and trunk divider (which has the Westinghouse stamp) are matching red to the interior and purchased from Al Knoch. The seats have new springs and foam (Eckler). The radio is a 100% replica wonder bar but includes FM stations. The FM stations are recessed behind the AM stations so as to not be visible at first glance. The clock is quartz. I have the original radio, speaker and clock but both would need to be rebuilt.
The spare tire board and bolt are original and the board has replica GM jack instructions, and POSI-Trac warning decals. The jack and jack handle are original GM 1961 Corvette. Few are aware but GM offered an optional emergency tool kit with 3 Drop Forged wrenches, a Drop Forged hammer. 2 Drop Forged screw drivers and a spark plug wrench, which I have in the trunk.
The rebuilt engine has approximately 6,000 miles and has the correct upper and lower radiator hoses with the part numbers stamped in white. The engine compartment has all the GM factorydecals on the radiator (2), overflowtank, oil cap, and the generator(Delco badge) are exact reproductions of the original (Corvette Central, Ecklers or Paragon). The fuel injection system was completely rebuilt by Lyle Davidson two years ago (Lyle has youtube videos). The engine purrs like a kitten when standing beside the engine compartment but walk to the rear and the GM factory road pipes give the car a sound sweeter than any Harley. The only thing not correct in the engine compartment is the Interstate Battery where an AC/Delco Battery with yellow caps for adding water to the cells was original, and I have a spin on oil filter instead of the canister. I also have the correct Positive traction differential housing but it is not installed. That was literally like finding a needle in a hey stack because GM used one differential for the Corvette and another for all the other vehicles. The positive tractiondifferential for Corvette was castwith a tall thin "P", and it has to have the correct casting number for that car, and the assembly date that matches is correct for the vehiclebuild date (i.e., the differential assembly date was one or two months before the vehicle).
Other than the radio which looks original, and the battery I have gone to great links to get this car 100% as GM delivered it. The car is not a trailer-queen and if it went anywhere on a weekend it was driven, it is just way too much fun to not enjoy. When launched110 mph was nothing, and the car sits tight on the roadwith absolutely no vibration or pulling, pretty amazing for 1961 technology. I drove it toCarlisle and it took 2nd, and the four other times I entered it in a show I left with a trophy.
